Assessment 1 Guidelines

Assessment Instructions In this assessment, you will need to complete the following steps:

1. Conduct a concise literature review to develop a well-informed understanding of these three primary causes of unsustainability in tourism: production, distribution (Global North-Global South inequity) and consumption.

2. Drawing on credible academic sources, critically analyse how production, distribution, and consumption contribute to unsustainability.

3. Analyse how these three unsustainability causes intersect with any three UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that are related to tourism.

4. Based on your literature review, select one cause of unsustainability to focus on for the rest of the assessment.

5. Briefly review literature on stakeholder theory in relation to sustainable tourism development.

6. Identify three stakeholders (one global/international, one regional, and one national/local) who play a role in addressing the selected cause of unsustainability.

7. Evaluate the effectiveness of the three stakeholders approaches in addressing the identified cause of unsustainability. Integrate diverse perspectives from credible literature.

8. Based on the literature review, identify any gaps that have to be addressed to strengthen the three stakeholders roles and/or management approaches to addressing the specific unsustainability cause

9. Suggest specific, realistic and actionable recommendations for each stakeholder to address the identified gaps in their roles and/or management approaches.

10. Propose future research directions to improve understanding of the relationship between tourism stakeholders and the chosen cause of unsustainability
