Imagine you and your team are marketing consultants at Fitbit. Your first task is to develop a new product for the company to launch, fully supported with a marketing plan. Your new product can be a variation of one of Fitbit’s traditional University of Westminster, WBS watch devices e.g., the smartwatch but with a new feature(s) that meet your target consumer's needs. Or it can even be a service e.g., It must, however, be launched in the UK, with an expected launch date in 2023. It must be something that Fitbit can deliver (e.g., they are not Tesla or KFC, they have different resources, abilities, and target markets), and it must be something that consumers would perceive to be consistent with (and add value to) Fitbit’s brand promise (so, for instance neither cakes nor high fashion). You should pay careful attention to how much the ideas you present in the plan will help the company to improve its performance. Keep in mind that the wearable industry has been undergoing much change. We have seen declarations that “wearables are dead” (Kovach, 2016), and counterclaims made that they are just evolving (Business Wire, 2017). Fitbit has found ways to grow, and your Marketing Plan should point the senior management towards a solution that could help expand and consolidate on these gains. This should underline the need for your plan to show an excellent understanding of the company and the environment it operates.
