Aim of assessment
Integral to academic writing is incorporating evidence from the literature in academic paragraphs to support your claims and arguments. This involves summarising and paraphrasing information from published sources, such as a book, a report or a journal article. Paraphrasing is a way of presenting an extract from an original text by modifying the words and sentence structures of the original without changing the meaning. To paraphrase well, you need to understand the ideas and concepts of the original text before you can change its structure and vocabulary. Paraphrasing, therefore, demonstrates not only your ability to accurately rephrase a text in your own words, but also your understanding of the text. The purpose of this paraphrase assessment is to develop your paraphrasing skills.
