What is the function of neurons in the brain? What does their absence signify?
Neurons are the fundamental building blocks of our nervous system. These specialized cells form vast networks that process and transmit information through electrical andchemical signals. When neurons are absent or damaged, severe consequences follow. Studies have shown that neuronal loss leads to disrupted communication within the nervous system, affecting basic functions like movement, memory, and cognition. The brain can partially compensate for some neuron loss, but extensive damage results in permanent dysfunction. Without neurons, we would have no way to process sensory information, control our movements, form memories, or even maintain basic life functions. They are, quite literally, the spark of life that allows our nervous system to function.
