Sample Issue Statement
Concerns with Coal Seam Gas (CSG) processes have been imminent since the energy extraction technique was first developed due to fears water tables could be contaminated. As a leading energy producer, Santos involvement in Australias CSG industry is affecting the organisations reputation as a responsible and sustainable energy company. More significantly, the issue has the potential to affect Santos relationships with its key stakeholders such as land owners whose land is being explored, communities in CSG project areas, employees, shareholders, government and partner gas companies. Public criticism grew sharply in 2011 following the Federal Governments approval of a number of major CSG projects throughout the country. As a result of upheaval in the government sector since January 2012 the issue has once again intensified. Ongoing mass criticism may cause government intervention in the industry forcing Santos to adhere to harsh regulations. Employees and investors may question the companys viability and be concerned about subsequent financial losses. Santos land holder publics may feel the future sustainability of their farms is at risk and therefore lose confidence in the organisation. If this issue immediately escalates it may be influential in causing long term negative impacts on Santos reputation, profitability and negatively impact its relationships with employees, shareholders and communities in CSG project areas.
