The Australian Law Reform Commission (ALRC) has recently heard about the work of the Non Human Rights Project in the United States. It has piqued their interest in Australia’s legal regime for animal protection.

They are intending a full inquiry into animal protection laws throughout Australia, though the inquiry is currently at a preliminary stage. Instructions:

1. Prepare and record your presentation as an MP4 file. Record your presentation using software such as Movie Maker for Windows, iMovie for Mac or OfficeMix for PowerPoint.

2. Your presentation should be in a professional style as if you are presenting to a Government enquiry. You may use a slideshow presentation if you wish, but it is not required.

Note: You should video record yourself presenting, audio only is not sufficient. If you are using Powerpoint and have Office365, use the Mix tab to access OfficeMix. OfficeMix is a great way to video record yourself presenting each slide. You can then convert the Powerpoint presentation to MP4 using OfficeMix.

3. Once you have recorded your presentation then upload it to YouTube as an UNLISTED video. Unlisted videos are not searchable; they can only be accessed with the URL link. Other students will not be able to view your presentation.

4. Make sure that the video is properly uploaded and the URL link works.

5. Copy and paste the URL link into a Word document.

6. The Word document should also contain a reference list of the references that you used to prepare your presentation.

a. The reference list should include references for any legislation, cases, journal articles, books etc. that you refer to, or that has directly informed your advice.

b. The reference list should be compliant with the Australian Guide to Legal Citation.

c. Note that you will need to undertake some additional independent legal research to complete this assignment. I suggest that you start by looking at the Extended materials for Topic 1.
