Assignment Task:

Context:

have In this unit, you have studies Ken Kesey's One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest and viewed the French film, The Intouchables (Olivier Nakache and Eric Toledano). In particular, you have focused on the nature of difference, the struggle between the individual and society and the role of the anti-hero.
The New Yorker is an online publication which informs public conversations on a broad range of topics, including representations and ideas in literary and non-literary texts. They are looking to run a series of articles which highlight the creativity of your generation and your ability to explore the human condition. You have been asked to create an article for a public audience which analyses the concept of the anti-hero as represented in the two texts.

Task:

Create an online literary article which engages readers and analyses the construction and representation of the anti-hero across both Kesey's novel and the film by Nakache and Toledano. As a part of this task, you are to refer to and analyse, the influence of the anti-hero in the battle between institutional control and human dignity in the two texts and their connection to the human condition.

To do this, you must:

• compare how the concept of the anti-hero is represented in each text to devise a thesis statement or contention in response to the representations
• develop this across the piece, dedicating equal analysis to both texts, and supporting your perspectives with evidence from both
• position the audience to think in particular ways about the representations in the texts, using the generic conventions and range of textual features of an online literary article
• add to ongoing, informed and public conversations about representations in literary texts
• consider the public audience of this article: well-read, informed readers, interested in discussing a text.
