Magazine Article Assessment
Magazine Article Assessment
Instructions
You are required to write a magazine article that will be published in a psychology magazine for general audiences (that is anyone who is interested in reading about psychology). The magazine editor has asked for a piece that explores one of the following topics:
The effects of stress on student academic performance
The impact of memory loss on Alzheimer's disease
The purpose of this task is to:
Consolidate your knowledge of the neurobiological underpinnings of some topics in biological psychology
Apply theoretical concepts to real world ideas
Communicate academic research and complex ideas to a general audience
The article must include the following:
An engaging title
Context around your chosen topic area (key definitions, importance of topic)
Explanation of the core brain areas and neural underpinnings of stress/memory
Appropriate references to academic literature. All information must be cited.
Design (images, colour, layout) appropriate to your choice of presentation. This does not need to be extensive. It is possible to do well in this in this criterion without using images, colour or complicated layouts. However, it should look different to a document of plain text.
Language appropriate for a general audience. Jargon should be limited, but if it is used, it should be explained.
Stick to the word count!
The article may include the following:
The use of a fictional interviewee, though be sure to limit the use of quotes. Any quotes or experiences of the fictional interviewee should reflect the research you have conducted.
Relevant images with captions (and citations, if necessary)
Information presented in text boxes or sidebars
Presentation
You may choose to present your magazine article on Word or PowerPoint. Please submit your article in PDF format.
The article should adhere to 7th edition APA formatting guidelines for citations and references. The word limit is 1500 words, including text in any text boxes, or sidebars, subheadings. References and the Title are not included in the wordcount. There is a strict word limit for the magazines editing purposes and must not be exceeded. Please include a final wordcount in your submission.
References may go over on to a second page.
