MEC5100 Advanced Modelling and Simulation for Project Analysis
Demonstrate your ability to conduct advanced modelling, by conducting the simulations as agreed to
in the project spec (which can be amended due to some new information/analysis).
Presentation
Record a brief presentation (510 min.), which includes enough detail to allow someone else to
understand your results. Detail any uncertainties in your simulations. Discuss relevant results. The
presentation should be self-contained and not rely on the viewer to have access to the simulation
model(s). To create a video from PowerPoint:
1. Slide Show ribbon -> Record Slide Show (definitely include Narrations, ink, and laser
pointer). This will start the process of you recording your video.
2. File -> Export -> Create a Video. Set Presentation Quality to keep file size below 100 MB. Use
Recorded Timings and Narrations (you can preview from that drop-down). Create Video
Marks
Please refer to the separate marking rubric for the distribution of marks.
Submission
Upload your submission to the StudyDesk by the deadline.
- Submit your video recording in a standard video format as well as your presentation.
- Your ANSYS Workbench should make it easy to determine which simulations were used to
provide the final results. You can have a single Workbench project or a separate Workbench
project for each class of sim, but it is not good practice to have lots of Workbench projects
when models can be associated with each other in the one project. - Zip each ANSYS project into a *.wbpz file (this makes it easy to upload and download each
project). To do this:- Open your project in Workbench
- Go to File menu -> Archive
- Upload the *.wbpz file that is created
4. Depending on your settings, your Workbench project zip file may be larger than 100 MB, in
which case it cannot be uploaded to StudyDesk. If this is the case, DO NOT attempt to split
your Workbench project in order to circumvent the file size limit (attempting to reconstruct
the Workbench project is very challenging!). Instead, navigate to submit your assignment,
then look in the Feedback Comments for the link you should use to upload the files.
Showcase
Everyone does an interesting project, but only the marker gets to see it normally. If you would like
to share your video with the rest of the class, upload it to the Showcase wiki below the assignment
submission portal. Feel free to browse the presentations of your classmates. There are no marks
associated with this or any requirement to participate: it is for you to share what you have done and
enjoy what others have done.
