Under the 2021 ICN Code of Ethics for Nurses Statement 1 part 3:

"Nurses ensure that the individual and family receive understandable, accurate, sufficient, and timely information in a manner appropriate to the patient's culture, linguistic, cognitive, and physical needs, and psychological state on which to base consent for care and related treatment". (p.3)

Under 2018 The Midwife Standards for Practice statement 1:

The Midwife promotes health and well-being through evidence-based midwifery practice.

Under the 2018 International Code of Ethics for Midwives Statement 2 part (D)

Midwives respond to the psychological, physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of women seeking health care, whatever their circumstances (non-discrimination).

There is no single description or definition of recovery because recovery is different for everyone. However, central to all recovery paradigms are hope, self-determination, self management, empowerment, and advocacy. Also, key is a person's right to full inclusion and to a meaningful life of their own choosing, free of stigma and discrimination." (Australian Government Department of Health, Recovery: The concept, chapter 3.)

• Analyse the potential impact of altered mental health on the nurse or midwife and how this may contribute to stigma, discrimination, victimisation, and unsafe practice.
• Discuss the three (3) positive aspects of mental health recovery (Respect, empowerment, and hope) Using relevant literature, discuss how these three (3) principles could positively contribute to the Nurses and Midwives journey of recovery. You should demonstrate your knowledge of recovery orientated mental health theory and practice.
