This assignment will help you reflect on the ethical principles that guide psychological research, your progress towards developing the APAC Level 1 (Foundational) Competencies, and the key learnings of the unit.
For Part 1 of this assignment, Ethics Reflections, you will take part in research via the Research Experience Program (REP) and report on your experiences with specific reference to the four Values and Principles of Ethical Conduct as described in the National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Human Research:
Research merit and integrity
Justice
Beneficence
Respect
The National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Human Research is available as a PDF on Canvas under the Assessment menu, or as a free download from the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) website:

You can earn up to 5 marks for REP participation (i.e., 1 mark for every hour of research participation)
The 4 Ethics Reflections are each given a mark out of 4 (i.e., 16 possible marks)
The Competencies Reflections will be given a mark out of 4
Late Penalty: 10% of the achieved mark per working day. Submissions more than 5 working days late will receive zero marks.

Part 1. To complete the Ethics Reflections, you will choose 4 of the studies you participate in as part of the Research Experience Program (REP) and write a 150 word (max) reflection on how each of the studies addressed one of the Values and Principles of Ethical Conduct. Each report will address one value and principle only, so across the four REP studies, all four values and principles are addressed.
Part 2. To complete the Competencies Reflections, you will identify the lecture(s), tutorial(s), and/or assignment(s) in which you developed skills that build towards the APAC Level 1 (Foundational) Competencies. You will also need to reflect on generalisable academic and professional skills you have developed (150 words max).
The assignment submission must contain the components listed below and will be assessed against the descriptions provided.
Assignment Title Page (not marked but mandatory for submission)
The title page should include the title (Research Ethics assignment), your name, your tutors name, and the assignment due date (see page 54 in the Kauffman and Findlay writing psychology book and/or the example essay on Canvas for an example of what your title page should look like). You also MUST include the following statement acknowledging your understanding of the Universitys assessment policy and procedures:
"I declare that in submitting all work for this assessment I have read, understood and agree to the content and expectations of the assessment declaration."
Ethics Reflections: Study 1, 2, 3, 4
Provide the title of each study and the specific ethical value and principle you will address for each study in the spaces provided. For each study, in the box provided:
Describe how the study appeared to address your chosen ethical value and principle. This description must re-state in your own words what is meant by the ethical value and principle (i.e., when describing how the study meets the requirement of Beneficence, it must be clear what is meant by beneficence in the context of the National Statement.
