Chapter 1: IntroductionThe introduction should include the following elements:
Background and ContextLead the reader into the topic and scope of your research.
Literature ReviewThe literature review summarizes, compares and critiques the most relevant scholarly sources on the topic. There are many different ways to structure a literature review, but it should explore:
Compare, contrast, and establish the theories and concepts that will be most important for your project.
Identify points of conflict and situate your own position.
Show what is missing and how your project will fit in.
Problem StatementDescribe the theoretical or practical research problem that you want to address. What is already known about the problem? What is missing from current knowledge?
Research QuestionsState the specific questions that you aim to answer.
Relevance and Importance of the ResearchMake it clear what new insights you will contribute, who they are relevant to, and why the research is worth doing.
Chapter 2: MethodHere, you should explain your approach to the research and describe exactly what steps you will take to answer your questions.
Research DesignExplain how you will design the research. Qualitative or quantitative? Original data collection or primary/secondary sources? Descriptive, correlational or experimental?
Explain the rationale for your choice
Sample and Procedures
1. Describe your study population and proposed sample (expected size, demographics, etc.)
2. How will the sample be selected? Once they are selected, what procedures will they follow as they participate in your study?
3. Informed consent: Explain thoroughly how you will gain informed consent or state why informed consent is not required for this project.
4. Describe ethical considerations and measures taken to protect human subjects
MeasurementDescribe the instruments and/or procedures (e.g., questionnaires or interview questions) you will use to measure the variables or capture a participants experience. If you select an existing instrument (questionnaire), be sure to provide reliability and validity. Explain how it is scored and whether there are any norms or cutoff scores. If you use a behaviour counting procedure, be sure to provide a rationale. If your study is qualitative, you must provide your interview questions, including prompt questions and outline strategies used to demonstrate trustworthiness.
Ethical issuesAre there other ethical or political issues associated with this research as you have designed it? How will you address these issues? How will you address any cultural considerations, if appropriate (there are always some)?
Analysis PlanDescribe all steps related to preparing and analyzing your data. Construct and include a flowchart outlining your procedures.
LimitationsIdentify and discuss several methodological limitations.
Practical ConsiderationsAddress any potential obstacles, limitations and ethical or practical issues. How will you plan for and deal with problems
