Introduction

The article by Mahalik et al. (2022), which has been chosen, is about the masculine notions of wearing masks in public. The article would be critically analysed based on the relationship with norms of masculinity and their attitude toward wearing a mask initiating protection against Covid-19. The research article has been included with all sub-parts, which are considered as being an essential part of any research paper.

The main motive of the research paper is to provide ample evidence proving the adoption of the CDC mode, which would help in protecting people and the community at a large level (Mahalik et al., 2022). The use of masks at the public level and its help in managing the effects of the pandemic are associated here as well. The critical review of the article would help in gaining the strength, weaknesses, processes and overall objectives gained by the researchers in the research method.

Summary of the Research

The research is initiated with an abstract that portrays all the parts briefly, which would be discussed in the paper. The methodology used in the paper is primary and quantitative where online surveys have been conducted on a group of people from diverse backgrounds (Kaur et al., 2019). The 15 minutes online survey was done on an online portal named Prolific where identification of the covariates was done. The result gained was analysed by SPSS version 25.

The article-retrieved data that was current and raw and had a data set, syntax file and log files for analysis and it was all shared to the figshare repository (Sim & Waterfield, 2019). The major strength of the article was the findings, which portrayed and helped the male population of the community to be more alert and use the new approaches in the protection of oneself and others by removing the stereotypical masculine norm, which is projected by political ideology (Mahalik et al., 2022).

The findings using the data sets revealed that the attitude towards men on wearing masks contributes to negative aspects of health. They are the barriers that can hamper the health of the individual and the community. The finding also revealed the norms as being bad in terms of the scientific very as well and men must not adopt these habits (Li et al., 2021). However, there were weaknesses and limitations in the overall research paper. Using the CMNI in the research provides less information and in the future, there can be chances of examining better masculine features in weaning masks.

Another weakness that was found is its heterogeneity in terms of sex, race, employment and few more. In future research, homogeneity can be adopted, which would help in allowing getting results within the same form of people and their health influence. Ethical consent has been initiated in the research, which is an important part in the overall paper. The statement of funding has been also mentioned, which is again a credible part of the research article. The data sharing statement has been mentioned as well in the paper in terms of statistical analysis.

Critical Evaluation

The article has all the important parts, which would make it credible and the proper format of the process of research has been followed. The article has a proper abstract, keywords are included and a detailed format of methodology, method of data collection and data set and analysis has been included as well. Analysis of all the obtained variables has been done using proper graphs and images, which would allow the readers to go through all the initial and final phases throughout the statistical analysis (Kaur et al., 2019).

Almost 631 responses were submitted, which proclaimed the interest in the survey by the people. Bootstrap was used, which helped in getting small samples together and it is a straightforward way to gain data through statistics. The research has been able to focus on gender and the basis of political identity and its contribution to the ways of perceiving the fact of infection in the present (Little & Rubin, 2019). This has been due to a lack of public health advice and this research tries to help people to address the behaviour of the men in order to change their mindset so that there can be a decrease in the rate of infection and suffering in the community due to airborne disease.

Use of quite a many numbers of other literature papers and peer-reviewed articles have been included relating to the topic of Covid-19 and its infections. The funding for the research has been included in the paper, which is a good sign for the peers to have its credibility. The financial support for the research has been granted by Boston College (Mahalik et al., 2022). Consent and ownership have been included as well.

An important suggestion that has been included is the inclusion of men in the research and now women. It is because women have been more serious about rules and regulations and they tend to follow them more. The research has been able to focus on its objectives in a very possible way and the results have been helpful in getting a view of the masculine attribute of the notion of wearing masks in public during the time of the pandemic.

Conclusion

The research article chosen is good to go based on research. The public health efforts in the crisis have been explored and thrown light on the negative attitudes that the people have over wearing a mask. This has the tendency to put people in jeopardy and can create a fuss in the community. The research article was able to portray the relationship between men and not wearing masks, which can induce dangers. The instance of political ideology has been represented as well in this connection by using all possible methods of reliable data set collection using proper methods as well.
