Module Description
The current business world is characterized by the explosion of data available to organizations. Many companies collect this data from different sources and under different structures. While many organizations do not know what to do with this potential gold mine of information, the most successful companies are those who are taking advantage of this data to make the right managerial decisions. This module is an opportunity for the learners to understand the use of modern tools when analysing big data and applying the right practices to ensure the growth of business.
Learning outcomes
LO1. Establish an in-depth insight about basic concepts of business analytics and use of python to relate its importance in organizational decision making.
LO2 Develop an ability to produce appropriate graphical and numerical descriptive statistics for different data types and use it for decision-making through Python.
LO3. Analyse and use appropriate models of data analysis to solve hidden solutions to business-related challenges.
LO4. Formulate an awareness of the benefits and pitfalls of analytics utilizing tools in different business domains of an organization including marketing, operations, and human resource management.

Materials Access
All learning materials are provided in the form of a module kit and can be accessed from the Learning Management system (LMS)
Learning Hours
Students need to be aware of their commitment requirements regarding study time. To give you an indication of that, we have based the following information on the Malta Higher Education Quality Assurance Agency guidelines. The notional learning hours associated with qualifications, programmes and individual units of study are based on a broad agreement across institutions that students can expect to spend 10 hours learning on average in order to gain one academic credit unit (QAA 2006).
Re-sit
If you do not secure a pass when calculated from both the assignments, please read closely the feedback and speak with your Course leader(s) or faculty. After consulting the feedback, close attention is essential to rework on the areas of weakness, and then resubmit the work at the next opportunity. As per the QAA requirements, only one REDO is allowed where the marks will be capped at a Pass.
Plagiarism
All forms of plagiarism are taken seriously, and any suspected cases will be investigated thoroughly. If a case is found proven, then the work will be graded as a failure and the case will be reviewed by the academic committee. The assessment team checks the Turnitin before the evaluation of the assignment is undertaken.
Student appeals
There are no re-evaluations as the marks are graded and internally verified before release for both the assignments. However, as per our appeals policy, a student can make an appeal to the course leader which will be then reviewed by the academic committee (please check our academic policies and procedures manual for more information)
Assignment submission extensions
Students can apply for extensions via the LMS based on extenuating circumstances (if any) with evidence (proof) as per our extensions policy.

There are no criteria for PPT as you can be as creative as possible. For the word document Use 12 Times New Roman script with 1.5 spacing between lines.
The results are declared only if the student has met the mandatory attendance requirement of 75% and/or minimum 50 % under extenuating circumstances approved and ratified by the academic committee and the examination board.
The students have to submit both Formative and Summative Assignments to score a minimum of 60% to clear the module.
The assignment should not contain any contents with references cited from websites such as ukessays.com, styudymode.com, slideshare.net, scribd.com, Wikipedia but should contain references/citations from credible academic journal and articles.

Scenario: Choose an organization and think that you have been recently appointed as the Data Scientist for organization. Assume that the Chief Operating Officer (COO) has approached you to give you your first case. The company has been for very long working on the traditional approaches and now wants to bring in data analytics as a practice. You know that this is a great opportunity for the company to go in for some advanced applications of analytics. It is your intuitive thought that the organization can use different sources of data to capture user information and enable far better personalization of advertisements.
The candidate is free to choose any organization that he/she may have sufficient first-hand knowledge of, preferably where you are working currently or have worked in the past, or an example organization that you have chosen for the purposes of this assignment. This may be a family business, a multi-national organization, a college or university, or any other organization that lends itself to discussion and analysis.
