Slab and Footing Estimation: Concrete, Formwork, and Reinforcement BoQ CPC40308
- Subject Code :
CPC40308
Introduction
The following part of the report is devoted to the Slabs and Footings, wherein Concrete, Formwork, and Reinforcement necessary for these in the construction project are discussed. Group assignment project entails that I should complete the 4th point of the BRI which entails determining the BQ for the slab and footing of the structure. The BoQ will include the description of the required materials, quantities and costs for such particular elements following the Australian and the New Zealand Standard Method of Measurement.
Scope of Work
This section covers:
- Concrete: What has been done to determine the volume of the concrete required for slab and the footings?
- Formwork:The amount of formwork needed on the slab as well as the footing.
- Reinforcement: Casting for slab and footings requires steel reinforcement reinforcing bars and mesh.
Methodology
1. Concrete for Footings and Slab
The foundation of the structure utilizes concrete only as the key ingredient in the frame. To determine the volume of concrete required for the footings and slabs, the following formula was applied:
- Footings: Volume=LengthWidthDepth
- Slab: Volume=LengthWidthThickness
2. Formwork
Concrete construction formwork is needed for concreated shape and support during its strength gain stage or curing. The formwork for both footings and slabs was calculated by measuring the surface area using the following
- Footings: FormworkArea=PerimeteroffootingDepth
- Slab: FormworkArea=PerimeterofslabThickness
3. Reinforcement
Reinforcement also helps to strengthen the concrete structure by providing right support. The steel reinforcement includes bars and mesh:
- Reinforcement bars were determined by using size, spacing and length which were extracted from the design drawings.
- Reinforcement for the slab in the form of mesh used was measured using the surface area of the slab in m?2;.
Bill of Quantities (BoQ)
The table below presents the quantities and estimated costs for the concrete, formwork, and reinforcement used in the slab and footings.

Discussion
The BoQ quantities are obtained from the structural design drawings that were developed for the project. In making these measurements and incorporating their related costs, I have followed standard practices in the industry and the methodologies adopted accordingly. Each of them has been further dissected to accommodate the detailed material needs for concrete, formwork as well as reinforcement of slabs and footings.
Concrete Works:

Concrete is the first material needed in construction and estimating its volumetric quantity needed to complete a construction project is vital including but not limited to costly over estimation of the concrete required or worst still under estimation of the concrete required.
Formwork:

The cost of formwork is considered high in concrete construction. To achieve proper concreting and molding there is always the need to quantify the right formwork area.
Reinforcement Steel:

Steel reinforcement reduces possibility of the slab and footing to crack and at the same time increases load-carrying capability. Specifically, appropriate spacing and quantity of the steel bars and the mesh is a key aspect needed for structural development.
Conclusion
The BoQ used for Slab and Footings show the requirements on concrete, formwork, and reinforcement. This part of the project oversees the method of executing a reliable quantity surveying service for controlling the materials cost and the construction completion. In the group project, I was assigned to the 4th point on slabs and footings and I have elaborated here on the necessary materials for the same.
