Part 1 of the Assignment: Introduction

• Write an introductory paragraph and explain what you will present in this assignment (refer briefly to points 2 to 6 assignment brief).
• Offer a direct quote definition of Community Profile.

Part 2 of the Assignment: Key data about the borough

• The key demographic data are: borough population, gender, ethnicity an age, religion, language breakdown, housing and employment statistics, number of voluntary sector organizations in the borough.
• Visit the Council and local community organization websites and their publications.

Part 3 of the Assignment: Identify your interviewees

• You are expected to carry out primary research and you will use on-to-one interviews.
• You will interview 3 local people
• Interviews can be carried out face-to-face or using zoom or your mobile and they should be recorded.
• You are expected to interview a resident, a community or youth worker and a councillor (or any other official with an overall view of the local area) for your interviews.

Part 5 of the Assignment: Recommendations

• Offer an analysis of your interviewees responses to heading 2 above and
• Based on the 3 respondents proposed solutions to the needs and problems, and offer recommendations for improvement.

Part 6 of the Assignment: Research Question, Title, Aim and 4-5 objectives

Write down your proposed:

1. research question,
2. research title,
3. one research aim and
4. Four to five research objectives for your final year research (Dissertation).

Part 7 of the Assignment: Conclusion

• Write a concluding paragraph offering a summary of what you have presented in this assignment (refer briefly to points 2 to 6 above).

Some tips

• There are three topics to cover in your interview questions but you can divide your questions into 2 or 3 questions.
• You are expected to present your findings under three headings (the main areas covered in the interviews).

Do not call your interview questions questionnaire. They are interview questions.

Recording the interviews

• The best ethical practice is to get consent forms from your interviewees as they will be more willing to participate and tell them that you need to record only for your self.
• You are not required to submit the consent forms with your assignment. This will be required next year.
• You can download the free app called Otter from your App Store. This App will transcribe your interviews.
• The transcripts of your interviews will help you to analyse your gathered data from the interviews.
