PREAMBLE:
Technical sketches are precise detailed illustrations of garments that provide designers,patternmakers, sample cutters, machinists and buyers with accurate details of garments, including proportion and garment construction specifics such as top stitching, fastenings,seamplacementandinsomecasesinternalstructures.
Attention to detail is important to develop an understanding of 3-dimensional garmentsand translate them into precise flat technicalsketches.
ASSESSMENTTASK:
From Weeks 1 through to 6 in your digital class, you will be introduced to new garments and Adobe Illustrator tools to create digitaltechnicalsketches.Usingspecifictoolsandtechniquesyouwillcompletedetailedtechnicalsketchesduringclassandas homeworkexercises.Eachweektherewillbeafocusonnewtoolsandcertainareasofgarmentconstruction,(e.g., pockets/topstitching). Digital technical sketches must be neat, detailed and display an understanding of garment construction (which you will be learning in Foundations in Patternmaking and Construction 1). Feedback will be provided in studio on the progress of your work.
Please be aware that learning in one subject also affects your understanding of another, all subjects have crossovers in knowledgerequired,andtechniques,thereforeitisimportantthatyouunderstandyourlearningasanintegratedpracticethatnosubject/technique is developed in isolation and requires youto draw on your own knowledgefrom other subjects.

Theworkwillbeassessedprimarilyonyourabilitiestocorrectlyrenderthegarmentsanddisplayanunderstandingofgarment construction; neatness in presentation of work willalso be assessed.

- Sketches are to be in Black and White only, except for 2 sketches: one with pattern repeat or polka dot, and one with stripe repeat. If the repeat pattern is too dark, use a lighter shade of colours then include a small fabric swatch with actual colours.
- Technical sketches (all 3 views) must fit in at least a 10x25cm minimum area in a landscape layout
- Each week MUST have the following text:

- Also, for a minimum of 4 garments include a detailed keyhole technical illustration to provide additional information about a garment's complex or hidden feature. See examples below.
