1. Introduction to your study
1.1 Research question
1.2 Impact statement (What is the broader societal problem your research addresses and why is it a priority? What are the potential benefits of your research?)
1.3 Background, rationale and aim for your specific research
(How does your research follow from whats already been reported in the literature? How will your study address a gap in the literature?)
1.4 Hypothesis
(What do you expect to find when you run your experiment? e.g., It is hypothesised that)
2. Experimental methodology
2.1 Independent variable
(What is the operational definition for your IV? Include the name of the IV, the number of levels, and the names of the levels.)
2.2 Dependent variable
(What is the operational definition for your DV? Provide a justification for your measurement choices, addressing things such as scale of measurement, reliability and validity.)
2.3 Research strategy and research design
(What is the research strategy for your study - e.g, descriptive, correlational, experimental, quasi-experimental, non-experimental? What is the research design - e.g., between-subjects, within-subject design or matched-subjects? Provide a justification for these design choices.)
2.4 Participants
(What is your population of interest? How will you recruit participants? What sample size will you need? What sampling method will you use? Provide a justification for your sample size and sampling method.)
2.5 Procedure
(Describe how you will carry out your experiment in sufficient detail to allow another person to replicate your study. If you will be using any established measurement tools, such as a scale or questionnaire, include at least the name of the tool, along with a citation/reference, and a brief description of what the tool assesses. If your study will incorporate an intervention, provide a brief description of the intervention. Lastly, be sure to explain how your design controls for extraneous variables.)
2.6 Ethical practices
(Are there any risks for your study beyond discomfort or inconvenience? If so, briefly describe them. If not, briefly explain why not. Explain any practices you will implement to conduct your research ethically.)
3. Limitations and future directions
3.1 Limitations of your research design
(What are the most significant limitations of your research design? How might these limitations impact interpretation of the results? For example, you may like to consider the external and internal validity of your study design compared to other research approaches you might choose to address your research question.)
3.2 Research agenda and future directions
(How will your study make a meaningful contribution to the wider research agenda for the real world issue you are attempting to solve? What practical implications would follow from the results - e.g., how will it inform policy, education, future interventions, etc? What theoretical implications would follow from the results - e.g., how will it advance existing theory? What future research directions will follow from your research, depending on the results of your study?)
