Student Name: <insert name>

Semester of Study: Semester 1, 2024
Lecturer in Charge: <insert LiC name>
Word Count: <insert word count>
Assignment 2: Written Essay
Introduction (heading not required)
This is the first sentence of the first example paragraph. In APA style, the first line of a paragraph is indented 5-7 spaces from the left margin (approximately 1.27cm/.5 in), and the right margin is not justified. All paragraphs are double-spaced. The page number is placed in the upper right-hand corner of each page. The name and ID number of the student writer may also need to appear next to the page number. It is a good idea to confirm with the unit lecturer about their specific APA formatting requirements.
Body (heading not required)
This is the first sentence of this section. This is a short direct quote of less than 40 words and should be incorporated into the text with a correctly formatted in-text citation that includes the authors family name, year of publication, and page number (Smith, 2021, p. 10). The direct quote is enclosed in double quotation marks. The full stop should be placed after the parentheses that contain the in-text citation. This next direct quote is much longer, so it looks different like this:
This is a long direct quote of more than 40 words. It is not incorporated within the main text but set off in a double-spaced block which is indented 5-7 spaces from the left margin. There are no quotation marks enclosing this long quote. The in-text citation with page number follows the final full-stop. (Jones, 2021, p. 30)
This is the first sentence after the block quotation. It is part of the previous paragraph, so the first line is not indented. This sentence includes an in-text citation for a paraphrase (Axelrod, 2020). As Thornton (2021) suggests, if you include the authors family name within the sentence, you do not need to include it in the parentheses. This is now the final sentence of this example writing in APA style.
Conclusion (heading not required)
This is the first sentence of this section.

Assessment 2 Details: Written Essay
The following information is to be used for this assessment:
Amy works as the Practice Nurse in her local General Practitioners (GP) clinic. On Monday, Emilio, who is one of the patients at the clinic, arrives for his annual check-up of his blood pressure. Emilio looks rather dishevelled, has his head down, is observed to wipe tears away.
Amy calls Emilio in for his consultation with her. Emilio advises Amy that his partner of twenty years recently passed away and he feels very upset every day. He has not eaten properly since his partner passed away and his house is unkempt. He has not returned to work as he feels too upset to socialise at the moment.
Amy listens attentively and with empathy. She attends to Emilios blood pressure, which is within normal limits for his age. She then asks if she could talk further with him about the grief he has just discussed. Emilio agrees.
Luckily, Amy recently attended a professional development seminar on supporting clients during grief and she identified appropriate community supports for such circumstances. She had also read some research based articles about how nurses can assist clients when they are grieving. Amy provides Emilio with information on local community resources available to assist him, including nutritious ready-made meals, a cleaning service and community activities. She asks Emilio if he thinks some of this information and these resources would be appropriate and practical for him. Emilio agrees that these supports may help him during this difficult time.
At the end of the consultation, Amy requests Emilio to return in two weeks time to discuss his progress and his wellbeing. Amy asks if Emilio minds if she shares information of this consultation with the practice GP, by documenting in his clinical notes. Emilio agrees to this. Emilio takes the resources, thanks Amy and re-books an appointment for two weeks time.
Using the above information, address the following in a formal academic essay:
With reference to Principle 2 of theCode of Conduct for Nurses(Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia, 2022), describe how Amy provided person-centred care for Emilio.
Discuss two (2) of theNMBA Standards for Practice(2016) that are relevant to this scenario.
In your answer, consider any other relevant guidelines and literature to support your discussion.
This is to be written as an academic essay, using evidenced-based nursing related literature to support your discussion. You may choose to use headings. For the purposes of this paper, while seminal work (early literature) may be referenced, contemporary nursing related literature (from within the last approximately seven years) is a requirement. Refer to the marking rubric for the amount credible and relevant references required in this essay. References cited should include a number of nursing related research articles (reflecting the higher levels of evidence).
