1. Reflect and write about a situation that occurred while on clinical practicum.
Think about a situation, interaction, experience, incident, encounter, observation that occurred within the ward setting during a clinical practicum. It does not matter if it went well or if it went badly, it is an event that you learnt from.You can use one (1) of the reflective models to guide your writing or another reflection strategy such as journaling or critical incident analysis.
A situation that occurred is when I was observing my buddy nurse preparing medications but the patient wasnt in the room yet she was preparing in advance so that when the patient got back to the room she could give the medication. When she was waiting for the patient to get back she put the medication in the drug draw of the computer. The drug draw can be accessed by any nurse as it was attached to the computer but the nurse wasnt always with the computer so that mean anyone could have put another drug inside or taken it. The nurse was busy and had plenty of other tasks to do so when the patient got back she just gave the patient the drugs not confirming them identify or anything or checking the drug chart when the patient last had the medication because the doctor has already discounting one of the medications that she has just given. When checking the MAR later at during the shift the medication that she has given was already discountine I asked her what happened now because she already gave it to him. Her reply was its okay it wont harm the patient anyway it was just a vitamin. This is something that I will learn from because to give medication you should be checking the drug chart to see if everything is up to date.
