What you need to do:

1. Select one Social Enterprise from case study examples provided in class. (Note: the chosen enterprise will be used again for Assessment 2: Critical Case Study)

• Identify the SDG/s the SE is aiming to address (while the SDGs are inter-related, for this assessment we suggest you narrow the focus to one main SDG).

2. Provide an impact map analysis for the SE. Research the Impact Map elements for your example by answering the followingquestions when completing the Impact Map template:

• What local, regional, national SDG-related challenge are they seeking to address?
• What is the enterprise doing (i.e. their activities) and how do these activities contribute to positive impacts which help to respond to the identified
challenge/goal?
• What does the enterprise aim to achieve from these activities (in measurable terms)? These are referred to as the ‘outputs’ and need to be as specific as
possible.
• What are the potential and eventual outcomes of the activities over time? The outcomes may be broader and less attributable to the activities, but the enterprise
often hypothesises that their contributions will make a meaningful impact towards the identified challenge or SDG/s.
• What is the broad SDG/s that the enterprise is hoping to contribute to? This is their ultimate aim in making a difference to the identified SDG/s.
• What are the critical assumptions that need to be present for the SE to make progress towards contributing to the SDG-related challenge?

3. Conduct desk-top research on relevant stakeholders (individuals and organisations) and complete the Stakeholder Map using the supplied template.

4. Write a 1,000-word report which addresses the assessment question.

Report Writing Tips

Write a 1,000-word report which includes the following:

1. Introduction

• Identify the relevant SDGs connected to the SE.
• Provide a brief overview of the specific SDG the SE is trying to address and why this is the focus of the report.
• Explain the purpose of the report.

2. SDG Issue and Implications
• Identify the SDG. How does it highlight challenges at a local, regional, national orglobal level?
• Provide data that demonstrates the effects of these challenges on people, places, or our planet.

3. SE Overview
• Provide a brief background on the social enterprise. You may want to include information such as: location, brief history, and reasons for establishing.
• Describe the SE mission/aim (social purpose goals) and how they add value to the SDG at a local, national, regional or international level.

4. SE Impact Map Analysis
• Insert the completed Impact Map framework template (save as a PDF).
• Explain (referring to Impact Map elements) how the SE is trying to address the SDG issue with specific reference to:
• Activities - What is the enterprise doing and how do these activities contribute to positive impacts which help to respond to the identified challenge/goal?
• Outputs - What does the enterprise aim to achieve from these activities (in measurable terms)? Outputs should be as specific as possible.
• Outcomes - What are the potential and eventual outcomes of the activities over time? The outcomes may be broader and less attributable to the activities, but the enterprise often hypothesises that their contributions will make a meaningful impact towards the identified challenge or SDG/s.
• Discuss two critical assumptions that the SE is dependent on to make progress towards contributing to the identified SDG.

5. Stakeholder Map Analysis
• Insert the completed Stakeholder Map.
• Consider and discuss how the viewpoints and interests of diverse stakeholders can strengthen the SE’s activities/outputs/outcomes.

6. Conclusion
• Based on your analysis of information from the Impact Map, Stakeholder Map, and
assumptions how is the enterprise contributing to achieving the SDG/s.
