A critical discussion of mental health services from perspectives of service users and providers based on a case study (2000 words excluding references)
Adeola is a 30-year-old, British woman of Nigerian heritage who has recently birthed twin boys.
In the first few weeks post-birth, Adeola experienced tearfulness, which was explained by her Health Visitor, as the baby blues. Six weeks post-birth, Adeola began to experience panic attacks and regular tearfulness.
Adeola says that she feels tearful, touchy and irritable.
Adeola says that basic tasks are confusing and feels that she feels as though she cannot clearly concentrate on getting daily tasks completed.
Adeolas parents live in Nigeria and her husband does not engage with very much of the childcare.
The Health Visitor (Jane Smith) has visited bi-weekly and has weighed the twins and checked the umbilicus wounds.
Jane has regularly asked whether the twins are feeding and sleeping.
Adeola is feeling distressed but is reluctant to make an appointment with the GP.
Adeola has tried to talk to the health visitor about how she feels but says that she does not feel heard.
