Assessment 1: Annotated bibliography (Due 15/09/23)- 2000words
The objective of this assessment is to conduct a comprehensive review of current evidence regarding the management of a specific symptom or side effect experienced by individuals with cancer or hematological malignancies. The task involves creating an annotated bibliography consisting of 6-8 key articles that establish an evidence base for the chosen symptom or side effect.
Ensure that each annotation is concise, informative, and follows the specified structure.
Each annotation should include two parts:
Brief Description:
Introduction, aims of the study, and research methods: Provide a concise overview of the paper, including the introduction that highlights the research objective, the aims of the study, and a summary of the research methods employed.
Findings: Summarize the key findings or outcomes of the study, emphasizing the relevance to the management of the symptom or side effect.
Limitations: Identify any limitations or shortcomings of the study that may affect the validity or generalizability of the findings.
Conclusions: Briefly outline the conclusions drawn by the authors based on their study results.
Critical assessment: Offer your own critical evaluation of the study, considering aspects such as study design, sample size, data collection methods, and statistical analysis. Assess the quality of the study from your perspective as a critical reader, independent of the authors' viewpoint.
Conclusion:
Appropriateness of implementing evidence-based management: Provide your perspective on the suitability of implementing the evidence-based management approaches discussed in the articles within your clinical setting.
Reasons: Justify your conclusion by presenting reasons based on the reviewed evidence. Consider factors such as the robustness of the evidence, potential benefits, feasibility, and potential challenges or barriers to implementation.
This assessment should be submitted in a modified essay format. This means students are required to include an introduction, body and conclusion in their work. Headings are acceptable but dot points, lists, pictures and tables are not.
Please note that the annotated bibliography should include a range of scholarly articles that provide relevant evidence for the management of the chosen symptom or side effect in order to support a comprehensive and well-rounded assessment.

Your portfolio should incorporate both a process-orientated approach and a standards-based approach todemonstrateyour abilities and growth.Portfolios provide a tool for students to help plan their futures, direct their learning and communicate their competence. The portfolio explores the relationship between the regulatory requirements of self-declaration and ability to achieve and maintain competency standards, while providing an avenue of reflection that is crucial to professional growth. The portfolio should be developed in a coherent and comprehensive manner and should provide evidence of your ability as a specialist cancer or haematology nurse, in addition to your ability to critically reflect on your practice and strategically plan your own professional development.
The portfolio must include the following elements:
Part 1: Standards-Based Approach. Using the Competency Standards for Specialist Cancer Nurses document as a reference (pages 35-49), assess your practice against each standard and criteria. Provide specific examples that illustrate how you have addressed each standard in your practice, with a particular focus on the past year while completing your studies. This section should constitute the first half of your portfolio.
Part 2: Process-Orientated Approach. In this section, employ a process-oriented approach to portfolio development. Reflect critically on your practice, primarily since the beginning of the year. Define your scope of practice and evaluate it from a reflective and critical standpoint. This self-evaluation should enable you to critique your professional development, learn from your experiences, and establish a direction for future learning and development in your chosen area of practice. Reflection should be active and facilitate the construction of new knowledge based on past experiences.
