Assessment 1 Details and Instructions
Purpose:
The purpose of this assessment task is for students to write a persuasive essay on the value of techniques based on theoretical approaches and the legal and ethical considerations when counselling children and youth of diverse backgrounds.
Process:
Write a persuasive essay critically examining and determining (1) the ethical and legal considerations of counselling children and young people of diverse backgrounds; (2) the valueof techniques based on theoretical approaches(e.g., psychoanalytic / humanistic / behavioural/cognitive-behavioural) when applied to the counselling of children and young people of diverse backgrounds.
In a persuasive essay you use reasoning and logic to demonstrate your point of view. You expose clear arguments and build on these using examples and academic literature. Use references as per APA 7thEdition and include a reference list at the end of your paper.
In preparing your essay, you need to consider elements such as:
- The real world implications of the topic of the paper?
- The purpose or importance of your writing.
- The questions that can be raised by the arguments you include.
The following guideline can be used to structure your essay:
- Write an introduction to your essay;
- Define the ethical and legal considerations of counselling children and young people of diverse backgrounds
- Clarify the valueof techniques based on theoretical approaches
- Discuss application of (1) the ethical and legal considerations of counselling children and young people of diverse backgrounds; (2) the valueof techniques based on theoretical approaches when applied to to the counselling of children and young people of diverse backgrounds.
- Review and evaluate the application.
- Write a conclusion to your essay.
Introduction:
Give appropriate background information to your topic;Briefly summarise the ideas that are included in the persuasive essay;Include a clear statement (your thesis statement) of the argument you will be writing about.
Body Paragraphs:
- Each paragraph will explore one element in alignment to your argument you are presenting on the topic.
- Ensure each statement is supported by examples and / or authoritative sources of academic literature.
- Include supporting statements as well as addressing any counter arguments that could be raised.
Conclusion:
- Complete your essay by drawing together the key insights/arguments you have presented;
- Do not introduce any new information;
- Extend on your thesis statement in light of the arguments you have presented in alignment to the topic.
