Topic overview
For this assessment, you will need to develop and present a brochure on a community mental health role. For the purposes of this assessment, a brochure is a simple handout that you would use in a presentation. Examples of roles to focus on could include the following:
CATT clinician
ECATT clinician
forensic liaison
police liaison
community liaison
homeless team worker
community rehabilitation
drug and alcohol liaison.
Look at some of the topic material that is covered in this subject to assist you with identifying a role. This is a very good opportunity for you to look at promotional roles within your health service and go and speak to people who work in these roles. Conduct a search using SCOPUS or Cinahl for appropriate literature to support your presentation. If possible, go and speak to someone who is in the role at your workplace. The literature should give you information about the history of the role and why it developed. In your presentation, provide reflection about the qualifications and experience needed to go into such a community role. You will then need to record a 10-minute presentation of your brochure.
The assessment task requires you submit a 10-minute video which includes the usual +/- 10% in the assessment task length giving you a 9-11 minute window for the length of your video. It is particularlyimportant to notethat the markerswill not watch past the 11:00 minute markso your entire presentation (including your reference list) needs to be included before you get to this point:anything after this will not be included in the marking of your presentation.
Assessment criteria
This assessment will measure your ability to:
Introduce your topic on your brochure and brochure presentation (3 marks)
Identifyonecommunity role and the scope of the role within mental health services (6 marks)
Provide the background to this role (how did the role come to be). What population does the role work with? What are the key responsibilities in health care? What are the educational/experience requirements to work in this role? (12 marks)
Conclude with the key points found (3 marks)
Present and deliver the brochure in an engaging and professional manner (3 marks)
Use appropriate referencing and literature to support your statements and have a list of references on your brochure (3 marks)
Guidelines
You will have two products for assessment submission (along with your cover sheet as usual):
a brochure
a video of you presenting your brochure.
Presentation format
The following provides a suggested structure for your PowerPoint presentation structure:
A title slide: this should include your presentation title, name and student number and should be showing at the very beginning of the video.
Introduction (1 slide).
Identification of one community role and the scope of the role within mental health services (2-3 slides).
Provision of the background to this role including how the role came to be (1-2 slides).
What population does the role work with? (1-2 slides)
What are the key responsibilities of clinicians practising in this area of mental health care? (1-2 slides)
What are the educational/experience requirements to work in this role? (1-2 slides)
Conclusion (1 slide).
Reference list in APA7 format (2-3 slides): note: please make sure that you (1) spend at least 5 seconds showing each slide in the video to give the markers adequate time to review your reference list, and (2) include this within the 11-minute maximum time period.
Please remember this needs to be prepared and presented to an academic standard befitting the expectations of our profession. This means you must include (1) in-text citations on the slides wherever you are using the work of another (just as you would when writing an assignment), and (2) a full reference list in APA7 format that includes of the sources you cited during the actual presentation.
NB: You do not need to read out aloud the full details of each of your citations when delivering your presentation; having them visible in the text on the slide will suffice.
Creating the brochure
There are many different programs that can assist you to do this though both Word and PowerPoint have template options to help you create a brochure. When you select aNew document/presentationsearch forbrochurein theformat sectionand you will find multiple options in both programs.
Creating your recording
You will need to record your presentation, either using a mobile device, or an online meeting platform such as Zoom (we recommend Zoom). The video file is to then be uploaded to the assessment portal (see instructions below). Zoom saves files as an mp4. Files saved in other formats will not be able to be saved to the LMS or viewed.
We need to be able to see you, your brochure (in Word, PowerPoint or whatever other format you have used) and hear you clearly. Zoom also does this very well. So please review your video to make sure it is of good quality and can be seen and heard clearly.
Submit your video using the Echo360 mashup tool via the LMS using your assessments submission link (see instructions below).
Submission format
You are required to submit three separate components for this assessment task as follows:
A brochure (saved in PDF format).
A video of you presenting your PowerPoint presentation (in MP4 format).
Your cover sheet (using the template provided for Assessment 1 on the Assessment page).
For this assessment task you will need to submit each of these three components (use the submission button at the bottom of this page):
Your PowerPoint presentation submitted to Turnitin (we encourage you to do this in PDF format).
Your cover sheet submitted to Turnitin (we encourage you to do this in PDF format).
Your MP4 recording of you presenting your presentation submitted using the Echo360 mashup tool (see instructions below).
As this is an oral presentation assessment, you will be graded entirely on the MP4 recording of you presenting your topic; submitting the written PowerPoint version of your presentation through Turnitin ensures the academic integrity of the task is maintained to the highest standard but it is not otherwise included in the marking process.
Record your presentation using a mobile device, online meeting software or other (see instructions above). Below are some possible software programs you can use to record your presentation and relevant how to articles for each application. You are required to submit your video using the Echo360 mashup tool via the LMS using your assessments submission link located on your Assessments page. See the article and video below for user guides to assist you with the submission of your assessment.
