Assessment 3: Reflective journal

Assessment 3 requires you to use an online simulator to understand how a process operates. Following this understanding, you are expected to make changes to the process that were selected based on literature research. Next, you need to show within your responses the impact of those changes on operational measures. A good reflection is necessary to show what you have learned and whether decisions you made were appropriate.

The answer to each question should not exceed 250 words (please note that the reference list is not included in the available 1000 word count).

Style and format

The recommended structure is:

A list of each question and answer

A references list (suggest 4 or more references)

The recommended format is Arial Font 12, 1.5 spaced.

You must use good research to support your answers. Additionally, you must reflect well on what you have learned.

Assessment 3: Briefing Document

Congratulations! You have been selected to manage a Benihana restaurant.

Before taking up your role, you need to show your operations management skills on the

company simulator which has been developed by Harvard. You will need to register on the system

which will include a fee ($US 15).

You will have time to learn and use the simulator. First, you will undergo training to

understand how each controllable operational factor impacts the performance of the restaurant. These

are contained in Challenges 1-5. DO NOT ATTEMPT CHALLENGE 6.

Once trained, you will have your chance to show off your operations management skills when

you do CHALLENGE 6 which involves only five (5) attempts to gain the best possible performance

for the restaurant.

It is recommended that you use a sheet to record decisions made over both weeks to guide

decision making and provide a record that may assist you in writing a reflection. Remember,

reflective thinking allows us to consider what has worked in the past to guide future success.

Your simulator outcomes will be stored in the company data warehouse so no need to provide

printouts of your simulator outcomes, however you should provide evidence of any calculations or

charts used in your decision making.

You need to answer each question below and provide an introduction and conclusion (frame).

The answer to each question should not exceed 250 words (excluding references) and only relate to

Challenge 6. The response is required to be anchored and underpinned by academic literature.
