Assessment2
Authentic Assessment Statement
This major assessment piece in a course designed to equip second year social work and human services students with basic knowledge and skills in research involves the development of a research proposal for a study on a topic of current relevance in social work and the human services. The research proposal includes key elements for the design of a study required in professional practice. To be able to undertake this assessment successfully, students are expected to apply relevant knowledge and skills acquired throughout the entire course, including feedback from the first assessment. This assessment challenges students to employ critical thinking and consider multiple perspectives in exploring pertinent ethical and methodological considerations and developing workable solutions as needed to enable the conduct of a study in line with current research standards and professional practice.

ASSESSMENT OBJECTIVE AND TASK
The aim of this assignment is to assess students' beginning knowledge of social research methods through thedevelopment of a research proposal. A research proposal is a plan for a research. The development of aresearch proposal ideally includes the selection of the topic. To spare students the potentially significantamount of time required to select a topic, we are presenting the suggested research topic specified below.
Students may opt to work on a different research topic but they would do well to check their ideas with theirtutors. The requirement is a researchproposal/plan.Submissions that bear any indication that an actual research was undertaken will be marked 0/100 outright in its entirety. The expected contents of the proposal are outlined below.
SUGGESTEDTOPIC
The 2017 Universities Australia Student Finances Survey (Universities Australia 2018) found that One in sevendomestic students say they regularly go without food or other necessities because they can't afford them. Andthree in five domestic students say their finances are a source of worry. Over a third of part-time students (35.7per cent) indicated that they regularly missed classes to attend paid employment and over half (52.4 per cent)said that their work commitment adversely affected their performance at university. The survey provides ageneral, quantitative overview. We are specifically interested in investigating the lived experience of university students experiencing financial difficulties for reasons you need to explain indiscussing the background and significance of the study.
