Aim:
Qualitative research makes a significant contribution to knowledge by generating concepts and theoretical frameworks that can: inform how health professionals provide care, lead to the development of innovative practices or interventions, or assist in the generation of new measures. This assignment assists you to conceptualise a research problem in your area of expertise or practice that could be investigated using an interpretive or critical qualitative methodology. This assignment measures the following course outcomes:
Explain qualitative research concepts, philosophical underpinnings, methodologies, and methods used in health and human services research.
Synthesise evidence to develop problem statements and congruent qualitative research questions.
Evaluate rigour and ethical conduct in qualitative health or human services research, and justify recommendations based on evidence or criteria; and
Design a research strategy which explains and justifies the selection of a specific methodology and methods to answer a qualitative research question.
Task Description:
You will formulate a research question and design an appropriate qualitative research strategy to address it. For this task you need to write a 2000-word essay that includes a brief review of the literature to develop a problem statement and research question, and design of a congruent research strategy including methodology and methods.
Task Instructions:
You are encouraged to select a topic that is specific to your discipline (e.g., nursing, midwifery, social work). Seek course convenor approval for your topic by Week 5.
ALTERNATIVELY, select one (1) of the following topics:
Elder abuse in care facilities
Child protection
Parents of children with a developmental delay / disability
Living with a chronic condition in adolescence
Parent presence during resuscitation of their child
Induction of labour
Community development
Breastfeeding a baby with tongue tie
Caregiving when a family member has a life-threatening condition
Brain death / organ donation

Healthcare environments / birth environment

Additional Information:
Identify a problem related to the topic and develop a problem statement that includes a brief synthesis of the literature, including the significance of the problem and identification of a gap the evidence.
Develop a qualitative research question that is accurate, concise, and logically developed from the problem statement in accordance with criteria.
Identify and provide an overview of the interpretive or critical methodology best suited to answer your research question. Include a description of the paradigm, theoretical/philosophical underpinnings, and key components of your selected methodology. Explain how the methodology will guide the research.
Describe and explain your methods including context and sampling, recruitment, data collection, data management / processing, and data analysis.
Justify your methodological choices in relation to ethics and rigour.
Summarise how the proposed research would contribute to health or human services.

This paper should be supported by sources from the scholarly literature (digitised readings, research articles, relevant Government reports and textbooks) that has been published within the last ten years.
References must conform to APA 7th edition style and be presented on a separate page.
Write in the first and third person as appropriate. For example, I will use reflexive
processes to is recommended in qualitative reporting.
Use active voice whenever possible. For example: The research team will conduct thematic analysis (active) versus Thematic analysis will be conducted by the research
team (passive). Active sentences are generally easier to understand.
Use academic language and avoid colloquial language and contractions (e.g., cant).
State your word count (excluding figures and reference list) on your assignment title page. Word limits for assessment items need to be strictly adhered to. The word limit for an assessment item includes in-text citations, tables, and quotations. The word limit DOES NOT include the reference list. Marking ceases at the word limit.
