For this assignment you will need to find two articles from business or IT professional publications/websites. The first article should discuss a successful outsourcing relationship, while the second should discuss an unsuccessful outsourcing relationship. For each article, you need to:
1- Provide a summary of the main points, including the outsourcing company, the vendor (contractor: the company which will carry out the outsources functions, tasks, etc.), what is being outsourced, etc.
2- Discuss in -in some detail- the differences between those cases (the successful and unsuccessful) in light of the points brought up in Week 4's readings. The analysis should emphasize what made each situation successful or unsuccessful.
Please pay special attention to the following:
1- Each of the two articles you use must discuss an actual case of success/failure. The article must present -in reasonable depth- an outsourcing relationship that worked or did not work. That is, it is not acceptable to:
a- Use an article that just discusses -in generic terms- the attributes of successful vs unsuccessful outsourcing.
b- Use an article that just provides a laundry list of companies that succeeded or failed in their outsourcing endeavors, without in-depth analysis of the reasons/causes for success or lack thereof.
2- You must provide links for both articles.
The assignment is worth 8 points and is due on Sunday, July 31st.
What are the advantages and disadvantages of taking an IT Services Management perspective when looking at an organization's IT? Should companies be encouraged to view their IT function from a services perspective?
Information Technology Service Management (ITSM) focuses on defining, managing, and providing IT services to support business goals and customer requirement.
The advantage of Information Technology Service Management (ITSM) allows us to standardize IT practices across all organizational areas. In result, clashes between departments the synchronization between various department is improved and clashes between departments reduce and helps prevent problems. Regardless of how great the employees but they will perform well with proper tools. ITSM helps the company employees in doing their tasks more efficiently and effectively. ITSM provides better visualization at workflow processes in company. If anything goes sideways, it can be easy to troubleshoot. ITSM tools also helps employees to spend less time looking for issues that are hindering production which also helps in cost reduction. Company can spend this amount in other things like advertising.
On other hand, there are several disadvantages. Firstly, the main issue is an integration because all frameworks are not compatible with IT services used in organizations. Also, it is difficult to succeed with support from higher management.
Scalability also plays an important role because there are some ITSM platforms that do not provide good scalability. Moreover, lack of necessary skills to perform the task is the problem.
Based on above mention pros and cons, companies should be encouraged to view their IT function from a services perspective.
