Assessment Details: Part A Knowledge Sharing Activity - You are required to complete a knowledge sharing activity. You will be making your presentation to other students and academics who have an interest in Information Technology and IT Project Management.

Part B Research Report Word limit 2,000 words - You are required to complete a Research report (max 2,000 words) on the topic above. You may if you wish consider a failed IT Project (there are numerous failed IT Projects that can be found)

Assessment addresses SLOs A Demonstrate ability to critically evaluate the appropriateness of traditional or agile project management methodologies for managing particular IT projects.

B Describe and develop the basic components of a project management plan

C Apply project management principles in the solution of real-life case studies

This assignment contributes 30% towards your final mark for this subject.

Research highlights that only one in eight information technology projects can be considered truly successful (failure being described as those projects that do not meet the original time, cost and (quality) requirements criteria). Despite such failures, huge sums continue to be invested in information systems projects and written off.

This assignment consists of two parts which are both compulsory.

Part 1 Knowledge Sharing Activity 10/30

You are required to complete a knowledge sharing activity. You will be making your presentation to other students and academics who have an interest in Information Technology and IT Project Management.

Take into consideration the statement that only one in eight IT projects are considered truly successful. Despite project management being taught in most universities worldwide why do so many projects still continue to fail? In your presentation consider why projects still fail and what steps can or could be taken to try and prevent projects from failing.

You need to prepare a maximum of five powerpoint slides and prepare a presentation which should be no longer than 5minutes.

Part 2 Research Report 20/30

You are required to complete a Research report (max 2,000 words) on the topic above. You may if you wish consider a failed IT Project (there are numerous failed IT Projects that can be found). Outline what the project was supposed to achieve and why the project was not considered to be successful. Remember that this is an academic paper being submitted so it is important to reference the paper correctly and ensure that spelling and grammar is good.
