The Business for Social Impact assessment comprises a portfolio of four (4) tasks designed to demonstrate your developing consultancy skills. The tasks are:

  1. TeamPresentation(20%)
  2. ProjectHandoverdocument(20%)
  3. SupervisorEvaluation(25%)
  4. SkillsDevelopmentand EmployabilityAssessment(35%)Hurdletask

Details of the requirements for Tasks 1 to 3 can be found on the Business for Social Impact CloudDeakin site. This assessment brief sets out the requirements for Task 4 which are based on the reflections and learning from your WIL experience.

Description

Throughout your studies you will develop a range of great experiences that you can present in future job interviews.Theworkintegratedlearning(WIL)experienceyouhavejustcompletedisanexampleofonesuch experience.

This task will require you to draw upon examples and insights from your WIL experience in several different ways. Firstly, you will craft a blog post suitable for LinkedIn that will highlight your experience, and the impact that the project you contributed to had on a community group or stakeholder. Secondly, you will draw upon a specific instance from your WIL experience to address key selection criteria prompts, giving you practice in highlighting a key transferable skill in action and a chance to demonstrate your skill mastery. Thirdly, you will include a brief example of how you could represent this WIL experience as an extracurricular activity on a resume. The final two elements will require you to reflect upon your experience to explore a key area ofprofessional growth that occurred, and finally an area you felt needed further development ahead of your professional career.Full details on each of these elements are outlined in the Specific Requirements section below.

2.KeySelectionCriteria(15%ofavailablemarks)

Key selection criteria (KSC) are statements within a job advertisement that highlight key attributes recruiters are looking for in a candidate. Sometimes you will simply be able to integrate the key skills into a cover letter or application, but in some instances, you will need to develop answers to specifically address KSC. Answering key selection criteria is a vital skill for graduates and all job seekers. This component of the assessment will give you practice utilising your WIL experience to demonstrate your skills in future job applications.

In addressing this task, you will need to reflect upon your WIL experience and draw upon an example from yourWILexperiencetoansweroneoftheKSCpromptslistedbelow.Therearethree(3)potentialKSCprompts provided.Thesearekeyselectioncriteriatakenfromactualjobdescriptions(thesourceisincludedattheend of the prompt). Please take the time to read each KSC option and reflect upon your WIL experience before deciding upon which prompt you will answer. You must only select one prompt.

Once you have selected your KSC, copy the prompts and the prompt number into the template provided for Assessment 4. Then identify the key skill the KSC is exploring and add this detail to the spaces provided on the template. Finally, draw upon an example/s from your internship to address the KSC using the STAR technique.

STAR stands for Situation, Task, Action, and Result. The STAR technique is a tried and tested method for answer behavioural interview questions. It is also a great way of developing a clear and focused answer for KSC.

Tips on addressing Key Selection Criteria and the STAR technique can be found on theDeakinTalent websiteor theDeakin blog, which provides the basis for the below explanation:

TheSTARapproachfollowsthisframework:

  • Situation:Providethecontextofyourexample(includingtheindustry,departmentandrole).
  • Task:Describetheissue,challengeorproblem(thisisthepromptforyouractions).
  • Action:Detailthestepsyoutooktotacklethetaskat

3.ResumeExcerpt(10%ofavailablemarks)

This WIL experience is not a form of paid employment or an on-going internship, as such you may like to include your WIL experience as a part of your education or other experiences section of your resume. With this in mind, please prepare an extract of your resume which explains your WIL experience achievements. In your extract you must include one or two achievement statements to demonstrate the skills utilised during your internship.

For example:

Achievement statements are like STAR responses, in that they allow you to demonstrate your skills and impact but do so in a single statement. The key components of an achievement statement are highlighting the key skills in action, explaining the task/project that allowed you to demonstrate the skills and the (positive) results. The below example pulls apart an achievement statement to highlight the key elements. The example includes multiple skills, whereas you might only focus on one clear example.

SuggestedWords:100

4.SkillGrowth(20%ofavailablemarks)

In this section you need to reflect upon an experience that occurred during your WIL opportunity that helped you learning about or improve a skill.

You can choose to reflect upon an example of communication, self-management, or global citizenship, however, the skill and the example/experience youreflect uponmustnot be the same asyou used to reply to your Key Selection Criteria.

YourreflectionmustadopttheWhat,SoWhat,NowWhatformatforreflection(detailsprovidedbelow).

To help you with your reflection, it is important that you think about the three skills as multifaceted. For example, it is often hard to reflect upon improving communication, but easier to reflect upon oral communication or non verbal communication. By focusing in on one specific example, and a clear component of a skill, you can provide a stronger and more nuance discussion. Please see the skills breakdown document on the unit site for an exploration of each of the skills.

TheWhat?SoWhat?NowWhat?Reflectionstyle:

This approach is about reflecting on a specific experience (The What), then pulling it apart to better understand the key implications and insights gained from the experience (The So What), and the long-term benefits of this experience/knowledge (The Now What).

What? Inthis section youneed to brieflydescribethe situation orexperiencethat requiredyou to usethe skill and provided some key insights.

You might briefly cover: what was your skill level like at the beginning of the placement, what happened during the placement, be specific what events/activity/tasks did you perform to develop your skills?

Sowhat?Inthissectionyouconsiderwhattheexperiencemeansforyourskill(eithertheabilitytousethat skill or your knowledge/understanding of that skill).

For example, what does this mean for your skill development your capacity to communicate, to work as a member of a team, or to be innovative?

This section is the main part of your reflection. In this section we are looking at the elements of the skills describedinStep1.Thisdoes notmeanthatyouhavetocoveralloftheelements, butyoucannothavefully developed the skills if you have not developed most of the elements. Please remember that failing or not doing well in a task can be evidence of skill development if you have learnt from that failure.

Now what? In this section you need to identify what this experience (and subsequent learning) means for your future.

What will you be able to do with your more developed skills? What are you more aware of now in terms of your skills? Whatwill you do the sameor differently inthe future? What areasofeach skill do you still need to develop?

SuggestedWords: 500

5.FurtherDevelopment(15%ofavailablemarks)

The final element of this task you need to look beyond the development during your WIL experience. In reflecting upon your WIL experience, identify a key transferable skill you felt was not as developed as it may need to be for your future career,Inyourresponse, youneedtoidentifyakeytransferableskillthatneedsdevelopment, explainwhyyoufeelit needsdevelopment, justifywhyitisimportantforyourfuturecareer(besuretouseresourcestosupportyour arguments), and outline specific plans for developing that skill.

Pleasefind2jobadvertisements/jobdescriptionsrelatedtoyourfuturecareerthathighlighthowthekeyskill is an important quality in applications. Include the job advertisements/descriptions as appendices.

SuggestedWords: 350

6.References

You must provide a reference list of all sources cited within your assessment task response. Please take care to support and properly acknowledge all information within your submission.

7.Appendices

This is where you will include the job advertisements/job descriptions as specified in section 5.
