Nutritional assessment
(approx. 650-700 words):
Macronutrient distribution and Energy: While citing appropriately referenced Food zone graphs and tables (RDI, EER, and Macronutrient ratios in the appendix or as table and graphs in the main text) critically analyse the clients intake of Energy, Protein, Fibre and fats as per Nutrient Reference Values for Australia and New Zealand. Please ensure that the data is presented as figures and incorporated/cited in the discussion.
Micronutrient deficiencies or excess: Highlight nutrients that are consumed in excess or in deficient amounts as per the clients diet. Then critically analyse it while comparing to the RDI/AI. You must discuss at least one nutrient for excess and one nutrient for deficiency depending upon your analysis. Ensure to include clinical studies as references.
Nutrient 1For example., you may notice that client is consuming 10,000 mg of sodium per day. You need to compare this value with the AI (what is the difference, by how much mg is she consuming more, etc.), and highlight key contributors (foods) of sodium from diet. Then discuss its impact on health (correlated with hypertension). Use clinical evidence to support all eh factual statements.
Nutrient 2Similarly, include nutrients that the client is consuming in deficient amounts.
Please include graphs and tables from the Food Zone software to show a graphical difference in nutrient intake.
Critically evaluate whether the dietary intake is sufficient as per the guidelines or not for this nutrient while discussing the functions of the nutrient as relevant for the client (age, gender, symptoms).
Fluids: Make a comment on the clients fluid intake as per the RDI.
Recommendations (approx. 200): Based on the above analysis, provide your recommendations about what the client needs to do to make up for the inappropriateness in her intake. For example., the need to increase iron intake by 10mg/d, etc.
Characterization of the need for the chosen nutrient supplement (approx. 200):
Review the Foodzone data for the nutrient for which the client is taking a supplement. (Discuss RDI/AI). Assess its potential of deficiencies/excess. Provide a critical appraisal while integrating with the review of previous task [Part II assessment (clinical evidence about the supplement). Present your evaluation about whether it is appropriate or meaningful for the client to take this supplement using the Australian guidelines and Food zone data as the supportive facts.
