Title:

Assessment 2 - Case Study / Case Report

Length:

1,500 words +/ - 10%

Rationale:

Both communicable and non-communicable conditions, can adversely affect the health of a population. There can be differences between Australia and an international country in terms of the condition.

Task Description:

ChooseONEcase study from the three case studies listed (see below) relating to a communicable or non-communicable condition. See the information and sub-headings below as a guide for formatting the case-study report.

Address the following points in your case-study report:

1.DescribeONEcommunicable or non-communicable condition that has impacted the health of the population for Australia and an international country.Include the morbidity and mortality rates, life expectancy for both countries, theInternational Classification of Diseases (ICD-11)*and/orInternational Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF-11) code**.

*The International Classification of Diseases (ICD-11) isan international database that is used to record health and collect data on the causes and effects of disease and death. Countries use these codes to ensure consistency with data collected by countries world-wide. This enables the comparison of statistical data between places and over time. The data collected informs policy makers and those working in the delivery of service planning, research, and health administration.

**The International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF)categorises health and health-related areas and is a framework for measuring health and disability for individuals and populations.

2.Critically reflecton the response by Australia and an international country (developed or developing) to address the immediate, short-term, and long-term challenges of the communicable or non-communicable disease.

3.Critically evaluatethe role nurses, with the assistance of the multi-disciplinary team (allied health care professionals, medical professionals and Indigenous Health Care Workers or the equivalent), have in helping to promote awareness and education among the population about the condition.

4.Develop,with the assistance of the multi-disciplinary team, a new health intervention/programme or public health solution for nurses to implement to better improve the health outcomes and reduce the morbidity and mortality rates caused by the condition among the population.

Case Scenarios (Choose ONE of the following):

Case Study 1.

Tobacco is heavily taxed in Australia. There has been a series of deliberate increases in taxes, by governments, over the last 2 decades, to deter people from smoking. Smoking costs people their lives and it costs the public in paying for their medical aide when they develop cancer. By contrast, some countries in the world have very high rates of smoking.

OR

Case Study 2.

Bowel cancer is a preventable non-communicable disease and is one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality from cancer among Australians. Governments have implemented policies and programmes in response to reduce unnecessary and avoidable cases of bowel cancer. Despite having such measures in place, the rates of bowel cancer are increasing world-wide, with many countries requiring new ideas for educating the population on how to prevent bowel cancer.

OR

Case Study 3.

Countries worldwide have experienced unprecedented flooding that has led to the disruption of way of life for the population directly affected by the floods. For many people, their livelihoods and way of life is closely connected to the natural environment. The flooding has wiped out suitable food sources and the water is no longer safe to drink, families are advised to re-locate to a safer area. Water-borne diseases, such as, cryptosporidiosis and giardia, have appeared that had previously been eradicated or are not an ongoing public health issue. The people affected have lived in the area for many generations and do not see the urgency to leave the affected areas, leading to the Government to issue a public health emergency.

See link below to Report Writing Academic. All work including planning to final submission, must be conducted in Cadmus.

The work submitted for this assessment task is to be your own work, i.e. your ideas, words, writing, creation, with the work of others (including the use of software) acknowledged. The use of artificial intelligence (AI), including generative text, isNOTpermitted in this assessment.

Include the following sub-headings:

1.Title page

Title page consists of the following: Title of report, student ID, cohort, course title, submission date, tutors name, word count.

2.Abstract

-An overview of the report, briefly explain the background of the topic, purpose and scope of the report, and key conclusions (approximately 200 words).

-Usually written last, however, often readers will read this part first before reading the rest of the report.

-Place the abstract on its own page after the title page and before the contents page.

3.Introduction

-Provide a summary of the topic and detail the aims and objectives of the report.

-Introduction is short and succinct (approximately 200 words).

4.Body of Report:

The body of a report (total 1000 words) is a discussion and/or description of the presenting findings based on evidence.

The sub-headings provided (see below) enable the report to flow in a logical and systematic manner.

-Use of tables/charts/figures will enhance your findings to the first three paragraphs. Summarise findings in the table, do not simply insert into the report without any summary of the findings).

-Reference throughout your report, including, any tables/charts/figures found within the report. -Present the findings here, discuss the findings in the discussion/conclusion section.
-Write in paragraphs using the following sub-headings:

<!-- [if !supportLists]-->

1.

<!--[endif]-->The Effects of (insert the Communicable/Non-communicable Condition here) on the Populations Health.

<!-- [if !supportLists]-->

2.

<!--[endif]-->Australias Response to (insert the Communicable/Non-Communicable Condition here)

<!-- [if !supportLists]-->

3.

<!--[endif]-->(Insert an international country here) Response to Addressing the Communicable/Non-Communicable Condition

<!-- [if !supportLists]-->

4.

<!--[endif]-->The Role of the Multi-disciplinary Health Care Team in responding to the communicable/non-communicable condition (including the role of the nurse, and/or Indigenous Health Care Workers, and allied health care professionals).

<!-- [if !supportLists]-->

5.

<!--[endif]-->Health Intervention/Programme (insert name of health intervention/programme here) to improve health outcomes.

5.Discussion:

Highlight the main findings and provide any recommendations (approximately 250-300 words).

6.References:

- APA 7th.

-Twelve to fifteen (12-15) in total, these can range from government or reputable health organisation websites, and peer reviewed journal articles.

-Statistical data should be from the official governments website of the countries mentioned within the report, for example, the Australian Bureau of Statistics, and Australian Institute of Health and Welfare for data on the Australian population.

-The WHO, United Nations, World Bank also report on statistical data, use this information to support the original/primary data collected by the government in an individual country.

-Secondary references are considered those who cite the primary authors within their writing and are not the authors who wrote the original report/study.

What is a report?

A report is an informative piece of writing. It looks to present and analyse information uncovered via an investigation of a topic, problem, situation, experience or event. Ideally, reports do more than simply present findings. Rather, these findings should be discussed and analysed, with many reports offering recommendations that come from these findings.

Formal reports, usually written with a clear audience in mind, follow a specific structure to help the document to be easily read and navigated. The structure may differ slightly, depending on the style and natureof the report, but there are fundamental sectionsand approaches that are consistent across all reports. This guide looks at the structure and format of a formal academic report, which is likely tocontain the following sections in this order below.

Additional tips

Purpose

??

Communicable and non-communicable conditions significantly impact population health worldwide. The prevalence and management of these conditions vary across countries, leading to differences in morbidity and mortality rates, life expectancy, and healthcare strategies. This assessment encourages students to critically analyse health challenges, compare national and international responses, and propose evidence-based nursing interventions to improve health outcomes.

Prompt ??

Students are required to select

one

of the provided case studies and develop a structured case study report. The report should include an analysis of a specific communicable or non-communicable condition, comparing its impact in

Australia and another international country

(developed or developing). Additionally, students must examine the role of nurses and the multi-disciplinary healthcare team in addressing the condition, along with proposing a new intervention or public health program to mitigate its effects.
Important: See the Case Study Report Guidelines in Resources as a guide for formatting your work.
