MEC3302ComputationalMechanicsinDesign,T12025 Assignment 2 Marks 200/1000
Due: 07thApril2025
Assignment 2 consists of 2 questions. Please provide your answers in one pdf file. Note that your FEA details should be provided under each relevant section of the questions and should not be presented as separate reports. I strongly advise you to listen to the recorded Guest Lecture provided in study desk, before attempting to Q2 of this Assignment.

Question1(125/200marks)
Q1.1(80 Marks). Using the stiffness method, determine the reactions and the fixed end moments at the supportsofsteelbeamshowninFigure1.UseanExcelsheetformatrixmanipulationifnecessary(e.g.inverse matrices), and include a pdf copy of excel sheet to your report. Check your results of support moments and reactions manually using the equilibrium conditions.Show the stiffness matrices for each member and the assembled global stiffness matrix. Also, needs to show, Free-Body-Diagram, element and node numbers, equivalent moments/forces appropriately.
Q1.2.(10Marks),DrawtheBendingmoment(BM)andShearforce diagrams(SF)forloadedbeam(Figure1) You may use any convenient method for manipulating matrices.
E (Steel) is 200 GPa, Poissons ratio 0.3 and Beam section details can be found in One Steel product catalogue. (An extract of one steel catalogue has been posted on the study desk).
Q1.3 (35 Marks) Perform a FEA structural analysis using Creo simulate for the Steel beam as shown in Figure Q1. Use 2D FEA analysis. Sub-divide the beam appropriately to obtain clear and smooth flow of outputs (results). Using FEA results,

- CompareFEAresultsandthemanualcalculations1.
