In this assessment, you will demonstrate your knowledge about community and community development work by reflecting on the community/ communities you belong to. You will apply analytical skills by examining key characteristics of the community and apply knowledge of community development processes based on values of human rights and social justice in achieving community goals.
By completing this assessment, you will meet the first two objectives of the course.
You will draw on the course material covered from weeks 1-6.
Demonstrate understanding of community work and the contested notions of community in the context of human service work

0298873This section includes two paragraphs that describe and justify the chosen community and its characteristics/elements.
The first paragraph will describe and justify your choice of chosen community where you belong. For example: You may belong to a womens club/group, sporting club, local area neighbourhood group, Greek community, school mums/dads etc.
Include the following points in your description:
Briefly describe the nature of the community (e.g. geographic/place based or community of interest)
Describe who are the people involved in this community, its geographic location, virtual location, size/membership, socio-demographic characteristics (e.g. age group, educational level, health, employment status, and sources of income etc.),
Briefly outline either an issue faced by the community or purpose of formation of the community (You are not required to formulate goals here, however, it is worth exploring what might be the community needs or wants to achieve.)
You must cite at least 2 references from the course readings in this section.

If you have chosen two communities where you belong, you can discuss the different characteristics of each of these community.
