Objective

The objective of this task is to design and implement a comprehensive database management system for a public library using MySQL. By completing this task, you will gain practical
experience in database design, implementation, and advanced SQL query writing, while also understanding theoretical concepts like the CAP theorem in the context of database systems.

Tasks:

This assignment aligns with the unit's objectives of equipping learners with the skills to design a database management system using MySQL, implement basic and complex SQL queries, and apply theoretical concepts like the CAP theorem in the context of a practical database project.

In this project, you will work on designing and implementing a database system for a public library. The project will involve creating an Entity-Relationship (ER) diagram, implementing it in MySQL, and demonstrating your skills through SQL queries and theoretical discussions.

Task 1 (35 Marks): Database design (LO1)

Define the scope and objectives of the database for a public library, considering stakeholders, requirements, and functionalities.

Create an ER diagram representing the database structure, incorporating appropriate entities, attributes, relationships, and cardinalities.

Justify design choices based on the specific needs of a library, aligning with the principles of database design.

Task 2 (35 Marks): Implementation (LO1, LO2)

Implement the database design in MySQL, including table creation, relationship definition, and constraint establishment.

Provide sample data reflecting typical library scenarios.

Develop a series of SQL queries demonstrating manipulation of library system data.

This includes queries for user information retrieval, account management, activity history, as well as complex queries involving JOIN operations and subqueries for advanced operations.

Task 3 (30 Marks): CAP theorem discussion (LO1, LO3)

Discuss the CAP theorem in the context of librarys database system, explaining its three components Consistency, Availability, and Partition Tolerance.

Explore the relevance of CAP theorem components to the librarys data management, taking into account factors such as data consistency and system availability.

Relate the CAP theorem to the design and implementation of the librarys database system, discussing its impact on decisions concerning data consistency and system availability.

Submission Instructions:

Compile a comprehensive project report or presentation that covers each phase of the project, focusing on the bank as the chosen example.

Include SQL code for your queries and explain the purpose of each query within a library systems context.

Ensure that your report is clear, well-organized, and visually appealing.
