Assessment 3: Personal Analysis (1000 words)

Drawing on relevant literature, select two (2) of the following group dimensions to provide an analysis of your work groups dynamics and the effectiveness of the processes employed throughout the life of the work group:

Communication processes and interaction patterns

Social integration (how members fit together) and group normsGroup development (patterns and stages in the group process)

Group culture (values, beliefs, preferences)

Leadership styles and roles

Conflict, differences and diversity within the group, and their management

In your analysis, you should:

Incorporate ideas from group work theories to assist your understanding of facilitation, participation and leadership in the work group.

Consider the influence of social structures (e.g. gender, age, culture) on the work group members participation.

Reflect on the impact of your own perceptions, assumptions and behaviours on the work groups functioning, giving consideration to the following: What insights have I gained about the way I participate in, and facilitate groups? Literature = Looking at articles, publications, using citations; specifically relevant group work theories

Analysis = Critical reflection, self-assessment, and backing up with evidence from literature

Your work group = Your group for Assessments 1 and 2

HCS201 Group Work and Program Design

Semester 1, 2024

Test Student (HES0000)

Lecturer: Jake Franklin

Word Count: 897 words (excluding references)

Submitted on 29th April 2024

[BODY TEXT]

[Introduction (Heading not needed)]

Give context of the work group, the assessment topics, and what you proposed in very brief detailStart with a reflection of how you think the assessment went from your point of view (regardless of marks)

Signpost which of the group dimensions you are going to use to analyse your work group (e.g., stages of group development, and communication processes)

[First Group Dimension] Communication processes

- Introduce (+ give a citation for) the group dimension

- How do you interpret your experiences with your work group through this dimension?

- Influence of social structures, potential difficulties or reflections on how this group dimension has helped you understand the way your work group performed

[Second Group Dimension] Stages of group development

- Introduce (+ give a citation for) the group dimension

- How do you interpret your experiences with your work group through this dimension?

- Influence of social structures, potential difficulties or reflections on how this group dimension has helped you understand the way your work group performed

Personal perceptions, assumptions, and insights gained- Discuss your assumptions and initial thoughts when starting the group assessments

- How would these have influenced the way that you interacted with your group, with the assessment itself, and the positives/negatives of this influence?

- What could you have done differently and what have you gained and learned from the experience as a whole? (e.g., personal confidence, social connections, knowledge, skills, etc.)

Assessment 4: Program Proposal, budget and evaluation

(2000 words)

Individual assignment responding to your scenario presenting a program design and evaluation plan.

Your program and evaluation plan should include:

Location of the task in a relevant or hypothetical organisation

Very brief discussion of the proposed processes involved in developing the program ie (partnerships or individual agency approach)

Brief statement of your problem analysis, needs assessment and theory of changeGoals and objectives

Inputs, throughputs, intermediate outputs, final outputs and outcomes.

Budget, including staff numbers, qualifications and abilities. (Assume a budget of $150,000 per annum unless otherwise specified in your scenario and, if including donations or in-kind contributions from other agencies (use of resources etc), this must not exceed 15% of the total budget.)

Evaluation plan, including statement of the objectives of the evaluationA program logic diagram of your proposed program may be a useful inclusion in your assignment.

Is NOT a once-off 1 hour group sessionIS going to be an ongoing program (multiple sessions, or running multiple times across a year)

To be included in a Program Design and Evaluation Plan:

HEAVILY refer to the Week 4 and 5 slides

Week 3 is also usefulLocation of task in a relevant organisation

Where possible, refer to a REAL LIFE organisation in your state

If one does not exist, then BRIEFLY describe a hypothetical (fake) orgPartnerships with community (leaders or organisations), or as a standalone agency

Again, try to use real organisations if possibleStatement of problem analysis + needs assessment = Week 8 Problem and Needs Analysis

Theory of Change = Week 9 Theory of Change

Refer to the specific Theory of Change, give a citation, and (if possible) apply it to your proposed programWeek 3 Setting goals and objectives; SMART goals, etc.,

Program Proposal [Or another title with the program name]Topic of Interest

Talk about what the issue or topic you are proposing a program to address isIntroduce your population of interest (e.g., new migrant parents, people aged 65+ years, people living with a disability, etc.,)

Talk about why it is important (if possible, give statistics or use research to back up why it is important)

Wrap up by introducing your proposal (e.g., To address X, we are proposing a program called TITLE)

Introduce the Program being ProposedName of the program

Where it is located within an organisation (as in where does it align with an existing service or organisation)

What your program will actually do (e.g., running educational workshops and/or peer support sessions to provide new parents with skills and information)

What your goals and objectives of the program will be (SMART goals)

How will you make it happen?

Where does your program take place (as in geographical location, community spaces, think about actual physical meeting spaces as well)

Recommended to focus on your local area, city, or at most, your local region (e.g., the greater Melbourne area, regional South Australia)

When does your program take place? Have at least 3 sessions, how often they run is up to you.

Consider the time of year and whether you would be able to get people onboard (e.g., if its around the holiday period, staffing and getting participants may be difficult)

Time of day and week is important too Evenings, weekdays, weekends?

When will your program be put into action?

How long will you expect to take before your program officially launches? If it helps you, provide a timeline like a project tracker.

How will you make it happen?

What resources will you need?

Physical spaces, funding (your budget is $150,000 per year max), staffing, training for staff, resources (like office supplies, advertising, etc.,)

Link into introducing your budget in the next sectionBudgetRecommended to use the template from Moodle, just add it into your Word document before filling it outAll of your costs need to be justifiedCan you possibly get community support? Maximum 15% of the budget value can be in-kind support or donations from community.

If you really want to go the extra mile, look up the actual costs of things you may need (e.g., the current average salary of a community services worker, the cost of an advertising campaign, resource printing, etc.,)

You can cite these if it helpsEvaluation PlanRefer to Week 5 slides to design an evaluation planClearly state the objectives of the evaluation, how you will collect data, what sort of questions and feedback you will be seekingREMEMBER TO FACTOR THE COSTS OF THIS INTO YOUR BUDGET!!
