Practical Project Storymap Overview
This project involves conducting a comprehensive analysis of a chosen urban issue in chosen city using ArcGIS Online. Students will select a topic relevant to the city, such as transportation efficiency, environmental sustainability, public health, or economic activity, and utilize mapping, story maps, and analytical tools in ArcGIS Online to explore and present their findings.
Objectives
Topic Selection : Choose an urban issue relevant to chosen city.
Data Collection and Mapping : Gather open-source data and create detailed maps related to the chosen issue.
Analytical Assessment : Utilize ArcGIS Onlines analytical tools to explore various aspects of the issue.
Story Map Development : Create interactive story maps to illustrate and communicate findings.
Propose Recommendations : Based on the analysis, suggest practical recommendations for the chosen urban issue.
Required Data
Specific data related to the chosen topic, sourced from city government portals, national databases, or other open- source platforms.
Geospatial, demographic, environmental, or economic data, as applicable to the topic.
Tools and Resources
ArcGIS Online : For mapping, spatial analysis, and story map creation.
GIS Data Sources : OpenStreetMap, government data portals, and other relevant open-source databases.
Analytical Tools : Specific tools within ArcGIS Online that are relevant to the chosen topic.

Practical Project Story map Submission Guidelines
Late submission will be penalized as follows:
Late submissions are allowed within a maximum of 5 working days of the deadline of the assessment activity. The student grade is reduced by 10% for each working day during the 5-day period. If the assignment is submitted beyond the 5-day period, the student receives a grade of 0 in the assessment activity in question.

Depth and Accuracy of Data Collection and Analysis CLO3 (25 Marks) |
Data collection is minimal and doesn't support basic analysis. Sources are irrelevant to the urban issue. Analysis contains significant errors or shows fundamental misunderstanding of the data. |
Data collection includes basic sources related to the urban issue. Analysis identifies simple patterns but contains minor inaccuracies. Limited connection between data and the urban context. |
Data collection includes appropriate sources that cover the main aspects of the urban issue. Analysis correctly identifies basic patterns and shows adequate understanding of how the data relates to the urban issue. |
Data collection includes well-chosen sources that thoroughly address the urban issue. Analysis correctly identifies important patterns and shows good understanding of urban dynamics through the data. |
Data collection includes diverse, high-quality sources that provide detailed insights into the urban issue. Analysis reveals meaningful relationships between different factors and demonstrates strong interpretation skills that could inform urban planning decisions. |
Data collection shows exceptional judgment in source selection that fully captures the urban issue from multiple perspectives. Analysis reveals nuanced insights that demonstrate remarkable understanding for a non-GIS specialist. Work approaches professional quality analysis. |

Effectiveness of Spatial Analysis Tools Used CLO4 (30 Marks) |
Student does not use any spatial analysis tools correctly. Tools are missing entirely or used inappropriately. No meaningful results are generated from spatial analysis. |
Student attempts to use 1 spatial analysis tool but with partial success. The tool choice has minimal connection to the urban issue. Results contain errors or are presented without proper context. Explanations of what the results mean are minimal or partially incorrect. |
Student uses 1 spatial analysis tool correctly and completely. The tool choice is appropriate for at least one aspect of the urban issue. Student explains the basic results correctly and makes simple connections to the urban issue. The analysis contributes |

Uniqueness and Originality of Urban Issue or City Selection CLO3 (25 Marks) |
Student selects a commonly studied urban issue in a major city that has extensive existing analysis. The project closely resembles standard examples or case studies. No attempt to explore unique aspects or perspectives. |
Student selects a somewhat common urban issue in a well-studied city. The approach shows minimal originality. The project addresses basic aspects of the urban issue with little exploration of unique characteristics or perspectives. |
Student selects either: 1) a common urban issue in a less-studied city, or 2) a less common urban issue in a major city. The project demonstrates some originality in approach. The analysis considers some unique aspects specific to the chosen context. |
Student selects a thoughtful combination of urban issue and city that shows good originality. The chosen focus is not commonly analyzed in existing case studies. The project explores specific characteristics unique to the selected urban context, providing fresh perspectives. |
Student selects a highly original urban issue or examines a unique city that receives little attention in urban studies. The project investigates aspects that are specific to the selected context and not widely studied. The analysis provides valuable insights that contribute to understanding lesser-known urban challenges. |
Student selects an exceptionally original combination of urban issue and city. The project explores an urban context or challenge that is rarely studied but highly relevant. The analysis provides substantial new insights about unique urban dynamics, demonstrating exceptional creativity in project conceptualization and execution. |
