Interview/Focus Group Guide
Preamble
You should include a preamble that you say before you start your interview or focus group to introduce yourself (if needed) and talk your participants through the interview process. So, in your preamble you should inform your participant(s) of:
Who you are
What your conversation will be about
That there are no wrong answers to your questions, that you are interested in what the participant thinks and feels, and that you are interested in learning from them and their experiences
That they do not have to answer any question that makes them uncomfortable, and you can take breaks if needed and they can end the interview/focus group at any time.
That you may use some of the things they say in your assessment, but they will remain anonymous
You should ask your participant(s) if they are okay with you recording the conversation
You should ask your participant(s) if they have any questions before you start the interview/focus group.
You should ask your participant(s) if they are happy to continue and get started with the interview/focus group.
Icebreaker question
You should ask an initial ice-breaker question, this question is designed to put your participant at ease.

Include appropriate questions to gather demographic data.
