Part A: Essay (40%)
Explain the Practice of HRM Functions among organisations in a selected industry
Your report should include:
Choose an industry (e.g., airline,). Compare the HR practices among two organizations in the same industry (e.g., Air Asia, Jet Airways and Firefly). Your essay should focus on the following outline.
Introduce the chosen industry
Introduce the chosen organisations from these industries and highlight the goals and objectives of these organisations
Explain overall HR role in attaining these goals.
Identify the challenges faced by these organisation
Explain overall HR role in overcoming these challenges these goals. Explain how these HR practices (e.g.: performance management, compensation) lead to the success of the organizations in this industry.
Identify if you find any similarities or differences adopted by these organisations to attain goals or resolve challenges

Candidates must pay attention to the following:
Critical evaluation and discussion. Issues will be dealt with deeper and on an analytical plan, based on good research with relevant examples, data projection and commentaries.
Balanced researched materials. Appropriate and different sources which must include sufficient academic research, not just secondary research from URLs.
Proper referencing and citation. APA Referencing is a must. Citation must include, apart from the normal details, the page number from which the issue for discussions has been taken. (Refer to APU Universitys codes of practice from their website)
Please pay particular attention to the following for the essay:
All submission essay and presentation slides must be submitted online for marking on Moodle under the module code and intake.
Ensure that the contents page precisely reflects the whole content of the reporting including the executive summary and appendices.
Page numbering: Ensure that the contents page accurately reflects the position of the contents. Page numbers prior to the introduction should be roman numerals. From the introduction onwards page numbering should be Arabic.
Bibliography/references should be listed according to the Harvard convention with authors listed in alphabetical order.
Marking Criteria: Essay
The criteria below detail the areas, which will be taken into account when the essay is marked.
To address the subject satisfactorily the assignment length should be at [excluding diagrams and appendices] a maximum of 2500 words. A typed format is mandatory.
Pass assignments are expected to be legible, tidy, well organised and written in clear understandable English. The report should include an executive summary or abstract at the beginning and end with clear conclusions and recommendations. If you have any problems with report formats please do not hesitate to contact me.
High grades [70%, 75%, +80%] need to demonstrate sustained coherent analytical ability. A systematic approach to analysis and evaluation is required for grades 70% to 85% - for grades at the higher end of the scale, integration and synthesis is a requirement. The quality of the arguments used to develop and support prescriptions/recommendations are, the essential test of integration.
Evidence of reading and some understandings of concepts are needed to achieve a pass grade [50%]. Integration of theory and practice is expected for any grade above 60%.
You are expected to clearly state any assumptions you make, and support statements and theories by referencing to appropriate sources. [This is essential for higher grades but does not necessarily prejudice a pass mark [50%] if it is missing].
Part B: Presentation (20%)
You are required to perform an oral presentation based on the following topic:
Talent management is becoming essential for organisations long term success, Discuss challenges (at-least five) that HR is facing with talent management. Suggest some of the solutions to overcome them. Support your arguments with relevant examples and evidence.
Please adhere to the presentation instruction below:
Presentation Requirement:
Oral presentation using PowerPoint. The presentation should have a clear beginning, middle, and end (intro, body, conclusion, references).
Add citations in your slides.
Presentation should not be more than 10 minutes; 5 minutes for question and answer.
One printed copy of the PowerPoint slides are to be turned in at the time of the presentation. One soft copy to be uploaded in Moodle 3 for online marking
Business casual attire at a minimum is required.
PowerPoint Requirements:
Avoid text heavy slides; dont clutter every square inch of the slide.
Every slide should have a descriptive heading.
All figures, tables, diagrams, etc. must be large enough so that the details are clear, and the labels are legible.
Spelling errors and typos are unprofessional and should be avoided.
All bulleted items should be parallel in structure (same verb tense, for instance).
There is no slide minimum or maximum (5 slides).

60% 69% There were sufficient points raised with valid explanations provided. There is an adequate understanding of subject matter. Minor grammatical errors and spelling mistakes.
50% 59% No clear understanding of article subject. Insufficient points given and explanations are unclear or not helpful in clarifying points. Major grammatical and spelling mistakes.
Below 50% You did not show understanding of the subject matter. Points are off-topic and do not tie back to the article. No understanding of theories and concepts taught. Not enough reference given. Numerous grammatical and spelling mistakes.
