BACKGROUND

The new building sector of the Australian construction industry is particularly dependent on the usage of timber. This is particularly true for the housing market. Despite the fact that Australia is itself a significant producer of timber, it continues to import the vast majority of its lumber from other countries. The utilization of recovered timber might prove to be rather advantageous because demand for lumber is on the rise and that there is a lack of supply coming from both domestic and international sources. Even while it cannot immediately replace new timber, using more recycled lumber in new building will be beneficial in many other ways.

RESEARCH AIM AND OBJECTIVE

AIM

The purpose of this study is to investigate potential areas that may lead to an increase in the utilization of recovered timber in brand-new building endeavors.

OBJECTIVE

• Determine the factors that encourage and discourage the usage of recycled timber in the Australian building industry.
• Do an analysis of the relevance of the factors and constraints in the usage of recovered timber.
• What are the potential solutions to the challenges that are presented using recovered lumber in the construction of new buildings?
• What long-term advantages does the building sector stand to gain by making use of reclaimed timber?

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

Systematic Literature Review

Finding suitable generic articles and journals on Google Scholar that are comparable to the study topic or cover a significant portion of it.

Due to the lack of recent study on the subject. Since 2015, however, several new research on the usage of recycled timber have been published.

In total I identify 38 journal articles and 6 of it is excluded from the scope of study. I will be using thematic analysis method for data analysis.

Asia and Europe produce the majority of papers written on salvaged timber. Considering both of these have a deficiency in their domestic supply, and as the environment is also a vital factor in the region's studies, it is imperative that they be conducted there.

The scope of the research is quite broad, the obtained data are insufficient, and other data on the same issue can be found. Due to the abundant availability of fresh lumber in Australia, however, there is a need for more study into the usage of salvaged timber.

Now, the research of all papers indicates that the usage of reclaimed timber can involve more than merely dumping. As the articles suggest, the usage of reclaimed timber is frequently costly and can expose building sites to pests and pollutants.
