Abstract
The automotive accident repair industry is an essential part of the automotive after sale system, which is highly important in terms of profitability of the organization, satisfaction of customers and long-run competitive advantage. Nevertheless, there are still some automotive bodyshops struggling to overcome some chronic problems such as operational inefficiencies, unreliable service delivery, long delivery time, and too much dwindling profitability especially in a highly competitive and technological market. This paper explores strategic management in improving profitability, operational efficiency and quality in the automotive accident repair bodyshops with particular emphasis on after sale service operations.

Following the principles of service operations management, performance management, quality management, and lean, the research pays a wholehearted analytical approach to the relationship between service processes and technological adoption, resources allocation, and their customer experience. The paper examines major operations issues that are encountered by the experienced automotive bodyshops and how effective process modelling, lean methods and quality management methods are in enhancing service delivery. The focus is on the dependence of the effects of structured service operating, technological capacity, and the appropriate customer communication on the operational performance, service quality, and customer satisfaction.

The research results are empirical evidence of how customized operating strategies can have a great impact on productivity, less process inefficiencies, increased service quality, and solid profits in the automotive accident repair industry. The research has theoretical value in furthering the body of literature on automotive after-sales services management and also a practical use in the study through providing practical suggestions that can be adopted by managers and practitioners in the industry. In the final analysis, this study also shows the strategic nature of making service operations in automotive bodyshops maximized to realize long-term performance gains and excellence customer value.

1. Chapter 1: Introduction

Further, this section laid out the groundwork for a comprehensive investigation of the strategies and actionable solutions that are important to enhancing profits, efficiency, and quality standards in the automotive accident repair bodyshops. The chapter then elucidates the problem statement and significance of the study, along with the purpose of the study. Afterward, this chapter discusses the scope and delimitations, provides operational definitions, and demonstrates a clear structure for the research.
1.1. Background of Study
Notably, the automotive sector is deemed a relevant element of worldwide commerce, offering vital facilities to clients and establishments. It is said that as the globe continues to emerge technically and ecologically, the demand for effective and authentic transport remains sustained (Haque et al., 2021). In the current environment, the relevance and notability of automobiles might not be ignored. It is said by Albatayneh (2024) that cars are utilized for routine activities, mentioning the prominence of the repair and maintenance of automobiles at the time they break down and a decent client relationship to be prominent in this cutthroat market. Typically, the automotive sector is established on the basis of manufacturing-driven sales, and auto repair facilities as an after-sales facility were identified as a secondary means to resolve issues arising within the guarantee period after the sales of fresh cars (Ahmadian et al. 2023). Due to this, the automobile bodyshop organizations have emphasized optimizing technological and repair procedure expertise with the aim of offering after-sales facilities with greater cost-efficacy in respect of time (Hong and Kim 2020).
It is stated by Arlinghaus and Knizkov (2020) that after-sales facilities like repair and maintenance have become progressively vital in the business environment. These services are a vital field of the automotive sector since they entail entire facilities and advocacy offered to clients after they have bought an automobile. Such facilities offer a consistent point of contact between the business and clients, increasing well-being following the point of sale, and lead to constant client satisfaction, business trustworthiness, and re-purchases. Effective after-sales facilities progressively lead to business income streams. Based on the sector, companies produce around fifty per cent of their income via after-sales services, which might sometimes be increased by the sales of original goods. It is stated that technology has developed significantly within the after-sales facilities industry. Another scholar, Titu et al. (2025), found that the effective operation of automobile maintenance shops is vital to promising functions or operations. It is said that the advent of technologies via required components has altered the outlook of the automotive service sector and resolved numerous issues linked with inefficiency, data inaccuracy, and poor client service. It can be said that effective organization has a vital role in authorizing automobile bodyshops to overcome the challenges of managing intricate logistics, handling massive inventories, and providing suitable service delivery to a greater extent of client satisfaction. In contrast, the conventional methods of management usually lag in addressing such challenges, thereby leading to operational ineffectiveness, faults in data management, and poor client service. After-sales facilities have appeared as a main means of revenue stream for businesses, and it is broadly admitted that those companies might be categorized as high-margin. However, it is further deemed a more intricate endeavour (Abdullah 2023). It is said that each day, clients become more cognisant of their greater norms of facility quality that are driven by the appeal of the participants and the greater expectations that prevail. Hence, service quality is effective and meaningful for businesses, being acknowledged as a fundamental influential force for success. Furthermore, consideration must be given when a reduction in client satisfaction emanates from poor service quality (Demirel 2022).
Notably, it can be said that technological innovations, market variations, and emerging client expectations were all contributing to a significant change in operations management over the years. Further, the advent of Industry 4.0 has entirely modified the manufacturing procedures, facilitating more customization, efficiencies, and adaptability due to data analytics, automation, and other systems (Juneja and Aggarwal 2024).
1.2. Problem Statement
Globally, the automotive aftersales sector demonstrated incomes of $6.6 bn in 2018, divided between the workshop-like repair, maintenance, and facilities and the supply of spare parts. It can be said that the amount demonstrates 7 per cent of the entire OEM (original equipment manufacturers) incomes and 25 per cent of their profit, with the repair bodyshop demonstrating 90 per cent of the incomes. These figures mention the remarkable relevance of after-sales facilities in the sector. Also, it is found that the automotive industry has seen a decline in new car sales and profits from OEMs. It makes the after-sales services a vital source for profits (da Silva 2023).
Auto repair bodyshops are fundamental to automobile continuity and repair facilities. Nevertheless, it is found by Omojola et al. (2018) that because of ineffectiveness in the process and layout management, such services usually encounter challenges with lessened productivity, lengthened client waiting times, and increased functional costs. It is also shown by Harboe-Chaman et al. (2025) that the accumulation of downtime in service management is a sign of poor operations management, underscoring the necessity of reducing it to improve competitiveness and efficiency. The automotive sector has been facing surging dynamics, specifically in the after-sales service field, due to economic changes and varying client preferences. The economic emergency has highlighted such dynamics, driving clients to the low-cost and second-hand car market divisions (Titu et al., 2025). In such a setting, after-sales facilities become a relevant means of income and profits for after-sales companies. It is notable that consumer gratification in the competitive auto sector, as demonstrated by after-sales services, is deemed a fundamental distinguishing element (Harboe-Chaman et al. 2025). Nevertheless, the issue is the greater levels of inefficiencies and poor client services faced by traditional vehicle maintenance centres: postponements in service delivery, inventory handling faults, and confused client relationship management (Sellitto 2021). Due to such issues, businesses choose to increase their value by providing quality after-sales services and assess the same via developed measures. The entire problem faced by bodyshops highlights the chances of surging operational performance and clients' opinions about the quality of the services. The current study focuses on the automotive bodyshop repair segment of different companies that are confronting manifold issues, which can be divided into the following classifications:
Client experience: Lessened client gratification and service quality;
Functional/operational performance: undesirable efficiency and productivity of the resources;
Corporate performance: feeble profitability of the repair workshops.
So far, research on automotive bodyshop services has focused on technical management, such as improving managerial systems and technical maintenance. However, studies on service quality and client experience are lacking. It is essential to study clients experiences in automotive accident repair shops, as service managementparticularly collaboration with clients and their contact with provided facilitiesshould take precedence over production management focused solely on maintenance and repair.
1.3. Research Objectives and Purpose Statement

This study seeks to explore the strategies for automotive bodyshops to improve their profitability, efficiency, and quality standards through their operations.

To analyze after-sales service procedures in a comprehensive manner, considering their inter-associations and their influence on overall efficiency or performance.
To examine the particular challenges and prospects of the automobile accident repair industry and suggest situation-specific practices.
To study technological solutions adopted by automotive bodyshops to enhance the quality of after-sales services.
To interpret study outcomes in real and significant measures to refine profitability in the automotive accident repair industry.
Below are the research hypotheses that were formed to direct this study:
Tailoring service operations in an automotive accident repair services company has a positive influence on the performance/efficiency and client satisfaction.
Certifying technological capabilities and methodical adherence in the identification and repair operations contributes to optimized service quality and lessened faults.
Improving the allocation of resources and client conversation has a positive impact on the efficacy of automobile scheduling and reception operations.
1.4. Significance of the Study
Theoretical Significance
The outcomes of this study are significant and are likely to contribute to the wider know-how domain on the incorporation of strategies in automotive bodyshop management and offer effective perceptions to industry professionals, inculcating confidence in the strength of such solutions. Automobile organizations play an undeniable role in the sustainable development of a nation by offering auto repair services to civilians. The outcomes of the current study pose a higher relevance for the management of auto repair companies via recognizing substantial and accurate methods in their after-sales facilities to keep the current clients and appeal to the new ones (Makarova et al., 2023). It is anticipated that this study would advance scientific understanding of supply chain management in the automotive sector and act as a manual for other businesses looking to enhance customer loyalty and service quality (Harboe-Chaman et al. 2025). Additionally, other keen scholars in this field might employ it as a means for comprehensive and subsequent research. The outcomes and suggestions from this study can facilitate managers of auto repair companies to increase and enhance the benefit of clients, workers, suppliers and native communities. The findings of this study offer empirical affirmation theoretically to the theoretical literature on optimized efficiency, profits, and quality standards in the auto repair shops. The literature has asserted that the quality of services can be gauged with aspects as per definite attributes of the sector and setting of study, so it might lead differently to the service quality literature and client satisfaction (Murrar et al., 2021).
Social Significance
To the know-how of this research, the current study is a novel empirical investigation which validated the dimension of after-sales repair services with instruments adjusted from others as measures of service quality. Moreover, the outcomes might lead to the social exchange theory on the common benefits attained by the parties in a constant relation between the client and the after-sales repair service shops or businesses (Vigneshwaran and Mathirajan, 2021).
Practical Significance
Practically, the substantial favourable relation between after-sales service quality standards and client satisfaction asserts that the Middle East car manufacturers must focus on providing high excellence of services to attract more trustworthy clients. It provided empirical evidence to the automobile carmakers that the operational quality is the most impactful aspect to show service quality and hence to increase satisfaction. The management needs to refine the operations of after-sales services of auto repair shops since it is shown that after-sales service is significantly associated with the quality standards of the service. The study assists the nationwide car manufacturers to organize and allocate their restricted resources as per the desires and current demand of clients in the after-sales auto services.
1.5. Assumptions and Delimitations
1.5.1. Assumptions
These indicate the facts supposedly true though not validated, and these advocate a clear, practical rationale for research (Dothan, 2025). For this study, the major assumption was that the survey questions were sufficient. Further, the information of the respondents was precise and produced realistic outcomes. The know-how level of respondents assisted in providing guidance for the study. Next, the respondents have preserved all essential records to advocate for management decisions. Lastly, it was supposed that the respondents told the scholar the truth regarding their operation with the aim of helping answer the research objectives.
1.5.2. Delimitations
The notion of delimitations assists in describing the limits of the study and arguments. These represent all the attributes which emanate from the limitations of the study (Coker 2022). The boundaries, as mentioned in this study of auto repair businesses in the Middle East operating for over 10 years with over 1k workers, narrowed the boundaries of the study. Moreover, the study scope of operational and technical strategies utilized to optimize the business beyond 10 years did not entail the sustainability schedules beyond operational and technical strategies. Long-run growth aims, marketing practices, and financial engineering schedules are not within the scope of this study.
1.6. Operational Definitions
The current study utilized certain conceptual and operational terms which are associated with the research questions to define certain words in this research.
After-sales service: It is defined as all the services provided by an automotive bodyshop after the client has bought the automobile and has begun using it. These services are the ones which are considered to be added to the automobile after it is offered to the client and are essential to certify the quality and authenticity of automobiles throughout their life, which is further vital for client satisfaction (Velimirovic et al., 2022).
Customer satisfaction: It is defined as the emotional feeling of after-sales facility clients from their experiences with the after-sales facilities provided by brands, which signifies the divergences between the actual efficiency of the after-sales facility and the wish and expectation of clients for such services (Nasir et al., 2021).
Service quality: It is defined as the extent to which client needs are fulfilled with expectation. It is a form of perception that associates with gratification, though it might not be equal (Baffour-Awuah 2018).
Performance: It indicates the capability to work on something which is attained, and it is a neutral truth which can be known and noticed. Performance in the automotive repair service setting is an integrative theory which entails fiscal, operational, and client satisfaction aspects (Titu et al., 2025).
Productivity and efficiency: Productivity, as a key indicator of operational performance, measures the use of accessible resources. Efficiency reflects the capability to fulfil the work within the quality time assigned (Adesina et al., 2024).

The current research is segmented into 5 chapters, which offer a careful elucidation of the project, its framing, the methods employed during its execution for the identification of problems and designs of solutions, and their pertinent executions. The structure of this study is as follows:
Chapter 1: Introduction
This chapter offers an introduction to the subject, demonstrating the industry in wherein the project is positioned, and the methods followed through its execution. Furthermore, the research objectives and questions to be attained at the end of the study are also mentioned in this chapter. The study scope, research significance and contributions to the practitioners and scholars, operational definitions, and structure of theses were discussed.
Chapter 2: Literature Review
This chapter delineates the overview of the prospective literature carried out by diverse researchers on the topics, identifying their relevant variables such as business performance or efficiency, quality standards for customer satisfaction, and profitability of business. It further reviews theoretical and empirical evidence on automotive accident repair services, quality standards, profitability, and efficiency. It summarises the literature gaps and provides a strong outline for the subsequent chapters.

This section further aimed to review the previous literature and researchers with respect to the strategies to optimize auto repair service operations and their impact on customer satisfaction, efficiency, profitability, and quality standards. These subjects were chosen to guarantee the best possible contextualization, including both a theoretical understanding of the issue and the actual methods and strategies employed. The decision was made with the goal of gaining a thorough grasp of every facet of the topic. The first section emphasizes the theoretical framework. Further sections present a deeper understanding of topics such as automotive aftersales services, the automotive industry, the relation between service quality and customer satisfaction from aftersales services of automotive bodyshops, strategies adopted by bodyshops for operational efficiency, and so on. Every section begins with the relevance of the factors to be explored and is followed by what was investigated, considering the relation between variables.

2.1.1. Service Operations Management
The administration of activities that provide a business's services to consumers is known as service operations management. It includes organizing, creating, and overseeing service delivery procedures to guarantee effectiveness, excellence, and consumer satisfaction. In order to improve customer satisfaction and efficiency, this idea comprises the design, control, and optimization of service distribution systems. In order to enhance workflow and resource allocation, this concept has been used in this study to evaluate and model the variety of actions in the auto accident repair service context (Titu et al., 2025).
2.1.2. Performance Management
Without a comprehensive set of performance metrics that considers the diverse aspects of organizational performance, it becomes challenging for organizations to fully leverage systematic benchmarking efforts aimed at enhancing various dimensions of their performance. The selection of KPIs (key performance indicators) and methods for gauging and evaluating the impact of service operations optimizations are guided by these theories. This study examines performance in a number of categories, including financial performance, client happiness, and operational efficiency (Velimirovic et al., 2024).
2.1.3. Quality Management
In automotive service companies, quality management is a strategic instrument for improving performance. The methodology used in this study is based on the fundamentals of quality management (QM), which include defect avoidance, client focus, and continuous improvement. Originating from the TPS (Toyota Production System), lean principles notify the approaches to eliminate waste, simplify operations, and surge value for clients. Implementing such practices into automotive repair bodyshops might lead to refinement of overall efficiency, specifically by lessening waste and increasing productivity. Although lean principles have a lot of potential, the degree of organizational commitment and context-specific elements determine how effective they are (George and Obinna Richard 2025). For this study, the scholars pursue recognizing and eliminating non-value-added actions to improve productivity and lessen completion time (Naciri et al., 2022).

Another study by Titu et al. (2025) mentioned that, with respect to automotive after-sales services, the concept of process or operations modelling entails recognizing, documenting, and refining the stages included in the service distribution, from the starting client engagement to the fulfillment of the repair of the automobile. This concept further aims to remove inefficiencies, lessen costs, and improve the quality of facilities offered, thereby leading to the optimization of the entire efficiency of the company. Therefore, it can be implied that businesses that wish to boost productivity and maintain their competitiveness in the car after-sales industry must use the process modelling concept. It can further be inferred that process optimization is a method that managers can utilize to significantly increase productivity, profitability, and customer happiness.

The recognition of current operational situations is extremely vital for the tactic of quality optimization in the corporate scenario in the manufacturing as well as service sectors. In the same vein, it has been found by Fathurohman et al. There have been numerous updates in this industry for many years due to technological advancements, ecological limits, and other trends (Ahmadian et al. 2023). It has further been asserted that this sector encompasses several phases of a whole life cycle, such as design and production, after-sales services, and end-of-life, each of which is vital for surging the societal, economic, and ecological worth. To know the total influence of such phases, another scholar used a lifecycle analysis framework that facilitates the manufacturer in making sustainable choices (Bongianino 2025). Moreover, it is found by Kridiawan et al. (2025) that automobile manufacturers have recognized the importance of a strategic after-sales service system in terms of customer loyalty, market share, and competitive advantage due to the industry's continuous evolution. With respect to technology implementation, it has been asserted that businesses are able to promptly and precisely meet client needs after implementing data-oriented after-sales facilities, which leads the business to attain a competitive advantage globally.
2.5. After-sales Service
Currently, businesses have been emphasizing the retention of existing clients instead of appealing to new clients. For a business, a vital source of competitive edge is the manner in which it deals with clients (Rosrio and Casaca 2023). As opined by Susilo and Ikhsan (2020), after-sales service is a set of operations encompassing every aspect of the integrated business to provide goods and services that customers find satisfactory and that help the company achieve its objectives. It is when a customer utilizes a service offered to fulfil the demands of the client following a purchase, including those related to maintenance and repairs of the goods or service. It has been asserted by Abdullah (2023) that after-sales services are also considered the source of competitive edge for a business, since with that portfolio, it can transform its offerings completely. Moreover, these services are offered to clients after product delivery to them. It can be said that such services entail actions arising after the product is bought and are committed to advocating for the client in its usage and disposal. These services are further found to optimize the use. As per Vigneshwaran and Mathirajan (2021), these services enable the business to involve clients after product buying, which further reduces the prospective issues associated with the use of goods and services and increases the client experience. In this view, another study by TESFAYE (2022) found that after-sales services delivery is considered acute since companies put their efforts into becoming economical, fulfilling client needs for offerings, and increasing profits. It can be said that appealing to a new client is around 5 times higher than the costs for keeping existing clients happy. Such services are considered product advocate actions, which signify all actions supporting the product-oriented dealings. Therefore, it can be inferred that after-sales facilities are the actions arising after the buying of the product and are committed to advocating for clients to use and dispose of the products to make them faithful (Mahr, 2023).
2.5.1. Relevance of After-Sales Services
According to the findings by Abdullah (2023), the after-sales services are deemed as the origin of income generation and differentiation, which are extremely profitable for a business when compared with the sale of the original product. Moreover, in a given product life cycle, it might provide three times the turnover of the initial purchase. One of the ongoing relationships that consumers have with a brand that affects their loyalty and level of happiness is after-sales facilities. Such services are further enabling a constant optimization of designs and excellence of products. In addition to adding to the customer value chain, after-sales service is seen as a source of business potential and competitive advantage. It necessitates a change from the conventional product-centric viewpoint, which views after-sales as a necessary evil, to one that is customer-centric (Habib and Sarwar 2021). Another study found that such services are considered additional service components offered by the service providers. These are mainly deemed as operational actions of certain individuals in the delivery chain. It can be said that in a market where there is fierce brand competition, an unpaid basic after-sales service is crucial to drawing in more customers (Usha and Thimmarayappa 2023). It is asserted that there are mainly three advantages to providing such services to clients. One of them is the capability to comprehend client necessities and desires. In this vein, a scholar, Sli? (2024), stated that the ChatGPT techniques are found to not just greatly change standardized procedures but also favorably impact the managerial operational designs in a company. It might signify that contemporary techniques must be progressively considered while fighting out the degree of autonomy in the entire procedure implementation. It can be said that ChatGPT can rearrange the traditional client services in the automotive after-sales services by improving prompt and precise answers to client doubts, which leads to a lessening of client query reaction times. The execution of this technology in business process management offers a strength to automate daily endeavors, contributing to a reduction in client query response time. It has been demonstrated by Sliz (2024) that a procedures transformative strength in embracing ChatGPT for process optimization specifically lies in improving efficiency, lessening wait times, and increasing client satisfaction. With regard to the potential of ChatGPT, it can be said that its execution is evident in the capacity of the tool to improve operational efficiency, client satisfaction, and overall service quality standards. It is found that this technology, when employed in particular phases, including maintenance and repairs, can lead to lessening irrelevant time postponements and advancing the whole procedure, mainly for service delivery.
2.14.3. Use of AI in Automotive Bodyshops
It has been found by Samal (2025) that artificial intelligence (AI) has been shown to have a significant impact on quality control in the automobile sector by essentially identifying issues, predicting failures, streamlining procedures, and increasing operational effectiveness. A study by Halim et al. (2024) reviewed the advantages of using this technology in after-sales repair and maintenance services, and it has been suggested by the scholar to use AI in such services. It is focused by Subrahmanyam (2025) that tools of this technology, such as deep learning, artificial neural networks, and more, have significantly improved their ability to identify problems and provide predictions with high accuracy. The machine learning (ML) technology of AI for quality control facilitated timely part review, declining reliance on manual reviews, and refining instant defect recognition in many automotive manufacturing businesses. As opined by Morales Matamoros et al. (2025), the automation of quality inspection reduces the need for a highly skilled workforce and manual errors, improves manufacturing planning and waste reduction, and enhances defect estimation capabilities in critical parts, according to research on the fundamental advantages of AI in quality management in the automotive industry. Another scholar stated that AI technology is significantly impacting the after-sales auto services sector, mainly in aspects such as customized service suggestions, client support chatbots, and predictive maintenance. Nevertheless, a study arguably found that when incorporating AI into current automobile service systems, there are obstacles, including data security issues, interoperability problems, and the requirement for personnel with the necessary training. Therefore, it can be said that reducing such problems is vital to maximizing the advantages that are brought by AI to the after-sales repair operations in the auto industry. It has also been suggested that by concentrating on the creation of AI capabilities that improve operational effectiveness and customer delight, companies in the automotive after-sales service sector can leverage AI to gain a competitive edge.
2.15. Lean Manufacturing Tools and Productivity at Automotive Repair Bodyshops
It has been found by Zhang (2023) that implementing lean guidelines in the automotive repair bodyshops leads to refinement of overall efficiency by lessening waste. Moreover, such techniques assist in removing unnecessary moves, significant inventory, and rework that lead to superior time and resource usage. It is found to increase productivity by simplifying the repair procedures, which assisted the automotive bodyshops to service more automobiles in less time, refining client satisfaction, and the bodyshop swiftly. In this vein, it has been stated that the employment of IoT (internet of things) and industrial control systems in lean manufacturing is found to improve real-world control and decision-making competencies, which further contribute to refined operational performance and lessen downtime. Moreover, the integration of lean principles with digital techniques is found to increase flexibility and receptiveness in the production system. It can thus be inferred that such techniques possess the ability to provide progressive practices for real-time observation and data assessment, and hence facilitate more informed and prompt decisions (Kumar et al., 2025).
3. Chapter 3: Research Methodology
3.0. Introduction
The research methodology explains the processes and actions needed to conduct a critical, diligent assessment of the subject of interest (Dzwigol 2022). This section of the study recognizes and elucidates the research strategy, approach, paradigm, design, data analysis, sampling, and ethical considerations. This particularly explains in detail the methods and rationale to use the mixed-method strategy by focusing on secondary research, explained by the excellence and amplitude of the data needed to respond to the research questions.
3.1. Research Philosophy
Research philosophy offers a vital strategy to conduct the research that can be inductive or deductive. Philosophy in the research work is described as a mode employed to investigate social events wherein one can explore explanations and attain a profound understanding of the definite event. The research philosophy indicates a fact in the manner in which data regarding an event should be gathered, assessed, and utilized. It has been found by previous studies that gender equality in employment and womens empowerment can be investigated utilizing numerous research philosophies such as critical realism, positivism, interpretivism, and feminist research (Gamage 2025).
As a mixed-method study, the current research focused on pragmatic philosophy. In this particular strategy, the scholars are free to select the techniques, methods, and processes that suit them best and fulfill their desires and aims of research. It is the concept that permits combining models, expectations, approaches, and techniques for gathering and analyzing data. It allows the researcher to move past the imposed divisions between constructivism and post-positivism (Biesta 2021). Additionally, it allows the researcher to freely select different combinations of approaches and to investigate from different angles. Therefore, in this approach, observations, experience, and experiments are all useful tools for understanding people and their environment (Mulatu and Negash 2024).
3.2. Research Approach
There exist three varied research approaches to the development of the theory, namely inductive, deductive, and abductive approaches. The theory, or more specifically the theory's hypothesis, is the foundation of the deductive method. With this method, the experiential facts can be analyzed and categorized in a systematic and analytical way. Additionally, an inductive technique makes it possible to develop new theories based on real facts from qualitative methods and study observation. This method demonstrates the logic that leads from particular observations to more general ideas (Kumar and Ujire 2024). The final method is abductive, which entails identifying and investigating potential descriptive patterns in an event's facts in order to reveal a route from evidence to concepts and theory. It is said that the quantitative study is typically recognized with a deductive approach, including fixed data gathering, demanding massive samples to draw conclusions from the mathematical testing, since the scholars goals lie in validating or invalidating the theory. On the other hand, for qualitative research, holding an inductive approach is more often the case (Barrett and Younas 2024).
Since the abductive approach is most appropriate for the pragmatic research philosophy, it was taken into consideration in this study. Additionally, this method combines both deductive and inductive methods in its journey to and from the crux. Furthermore, it is ideal because it will make it possible to combine primary data with both qualitative and quantitative data methods, which will help identify accurate and dependable results (Conaty 2021).
3.3. Research Strategy
Based on the research questions and objectives, varied research strategies are employed in the research work. There are three major research strategies, namely qualitative, quantitative, and mixed-method. The qualitative study emphasizes the examination of subjective research areas from humans, entailing human actions, opinions, experiences, and other psychological forces. The qualitative choice is mainly employed in sociological studies to comprehend the areas of human engagement. Such choices typically entail a survey, interview, focus group, observation, and more. A researcher can ascertain or comprehend a specific event from the perspective of those who experienced it, according to the idea of a qualitative technique in research studies. The quantitative study is another choice that emphasizes objective data to discover facts and the development of facts in scientific study. It typically gathers quantifiable data from a scientific design of the data-gathering procedure (Nagpal et al., 2021).
The research strategy, which uses a sequential mixed-methods explanatory research design appropriate for this topic, lays out the plan for collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data. In order to achieve a comprehensive understanding of the service operations and forces influencing efficiency in the vehicle repair business, this study aimed to select a mixed-method approach that combines both qualitative and quantitative methodologies. Mixed methods research fits this research study for three reasons. First, the mixed methods design allows the use of a mixture of quantitative and qualitative data collection in a single study. The method enables a researcher to investigate a problem from a different standpoint, collect various data types, and analyze the information through various lenses. Second, mixed methods help the researcher answer complex research questions. It has been suggested that mixing methods allows the researcher to exploit the strengths and weaknesses of each approach. It can be said that the researcher was able to elaborate, expand, and clarify the findings from one phase to the next by using mixed-method data collection, which allowed research from one phase to complement the next (Taherdoost 2022). For example, a quantitative survey can collect numerical data, while qualitative-based interviews can collect rich, in-depth narrative data. This strategy is a suitable one since it overcomes the shortcomings of a completely qualitative or completely quantitative method, which enables conjunction and reliability gains via triangulation. This leads to compensating for the shortfalls of each technique and emanating a more comprehensive view of what is being studied. Moreover, the mixed-method approach has been criticized for problems associated with epistemological obligations and independent philosophies. Besides, this strategy has been criticized for the integrated study approaches, which can elevate resistant viewpoints of social assurance and which separate them inconsistently (Gobo 2023).
3.4. Research Design
It is stated that a research design means a plan that directs the scholar to gather, gauge, and analyze the gathered information. It is further said that an all-inclusive research design needs to be capable of answering the study questions and offering a strategy to the problem. Usually, there exist numerous designs that are competent to answer the study questions, and there are three types of research designs, namely explanatory, exploratory, and descriptive. Mainly, the types of mixed-method research designs are sequential explanatory, sequential transformative, sequential exploratory, concurrent nested, concurrent triangulation, and concurrent transformative (Hermina 2025).
For the purpose of this study, the scholar considered using a descriptive research design to answer the questions. More specifically, the present study focused on a concurrent triangulation approach that enables the scholar to enhance the external validity of the research. The use of several methods, data-gathering techniques, and information sources to get a more comprehensive view and to validate information is considered triangulation. It signifies the process of using numerous study techniques within a similar design. This method facilitated the scholar attaining consistency in certain findings and hence enhances the external validity of the entire study. It facilitated the scholar to triangulate diverse sources of data by assessing claims and arguments from the sources and employing them to make a holistic rationale for themes. Moreover, this research design enabled the scholar to feel more self-assured of the outcomes. It leads to thicker and more plentiful information and detects incongruities (Nanthagopan 2021). The methods, such as semi-structured interviews, transcription procedures, questioning, and more, are used to carry out interviews and coding. The assessment from various methods can offer validation to the subsequent data analysis. can assist the researcher in enhancing the reliability and validity of the research. With this approach, the respondents in this research get the chance to verify that the interview story accurately depicts their reality. The stage of member reviews, wherein the preliminary data and analysis were checked by the subject, certified that the information was accurately captured by the researcher within the spirit or essence of what was spoken.
3.5. Data Collection
There are mainly two sources of data collection, namely primary and secondary. The primary data indicate the firsthand data gathered by the scholar for the first time. Such data can be gathered using surveys, interviews, and other methods. The secondary data is the one that is already gathered by other scholars (Mazhar et al., 2021).
The data gathering for this research was done using both primary and secondary data sources by adopting a mixed-method approach. The core data collection methods were supplemented by the questionnaire-based strategy, which improved the breadth and depth of our study findings and enhanced the research process as a whole. Therefore, to collect primary quantitative data for this study, a structured questionnaire using a Likert scale was made to get responses on the topic about strategies used by automotive bodyshops to refine their performance, quality standards, and profits. The scholar made sure to follow widely accepted ideal approaches for the design of the questionnaire. Moreover, the survey was examined initially with a smaller set of participants to certify prominence, all-inclusiveness, and clarity to rectify any confusions and errors prior to complete deployment (Taherdoost 2022).
Moreover, for the purpose of collecting primary qualitative data, the scholar conducted a semi-structured interview approach. It was chosen since the customized strategy of the interview enabled more profound answers and improved response rates (Adeoye?Olatunde and Olenik 2021). Additionally, tailored invites via email and follow-ups were forwarded by ensuring the customized design technique.
3.6. Sample Size and Sampling Technique
Sampling indicates a guiding principle of the qualitative research study. There are two major sampling techniques, namely probability and non-probability methods. For this study, the sampling procedure begins with the determination of the population of the study. It is said that population means the entire set that might entail individuals who share the interests of scholars. Sampling refers to the procedure to choose just the right individuals to represent the whole population and hence assists in avoiding mistakes that might emanate from large components included in the massive population (Stratton 2023).
For the purpose of the survey data study, the scholars have chosen the customers in the after-sales car market for the survey questionnaire. The scholar selected clients who possess experience from the last after-sales services from an automotive car accident bodyshop, or are presently waiting for the automobile to finish the services. With this, the scholar might get fresh answers from clients that are without any bias because of the time lag. Moreover, for the purpose of the interview data, the scholars have chosen the bodyshop branches of the car makers in the Middle East. Only bodyshops are chosen since these are in direct control of the main organizations with respect to any conversations, managerial policies, SOPs (standard operating procedures), and guidance. The systematic sampling technique was utilized by the scholar to choose customers in this study. This technique allows drawing every nth component on the basis of a pre-decided population, initiated by randomly selecting components between 1 and n (Makwana et al., 2023). On the basis of the individuals as perceived by the body shop management, the self-administered questionnaire technique was employed as a means to gather information, in which each of the three clients was surveyed to react to the survey questions. The sample size chosen for the survey is 50 respondents, and for the interview, it is 5 respondents. It is crucial to remember that the scholar had no connection to any of the institutions where the data was gathered.
3.7. Data Analysis
Data analysis is needed to contribute inference of the findings and talk about their relevance to the study objectives and questions. It is said that an all-inclusive data analysis strategy was employed after completion of data gathering to generate intuitive outcomes and fulfill the goals of the study. After the collection of data via interview, there is a need to translate the same, which means the conversion of ideas expressed from one language to another. It is required since this can fundamentally shape the research procedure consequences for the scholar, depending on the interview. It can be said that descriptive statistics and statistical tests were utilized in this study to measure quantitative data. Statistical assessment signifies a technique employed to understand the intricate relation in the present study. Additionally, themes and patterns related to the operations of after-sales services and customer interactions were identified through the assessment of qualitative data. SPSS analysis was used to examine the degree of correlation between the dependent and independent variables (Ghanad 2023). Various analytical techniques were employed in this study to assess and interpret the data as mentioned below:
Comparative evaluation is the process of identifying patterns and changes by comparing data from various time periods and service activities.
In descriptive analytics, the collected data is specified and summarized by computing the mean, median, and SD (standard deviation).
Analyzing qualitative data involves finding themes in client feedback, observational data, and interview data to provide context and explanation for quantitative results. To identify the themes that emerged, content and thematic analysis tools were used to examine qualitative data from the interviews and open-ended survey questions (Allsop et al. 2022).
As a result, rather than performing complex statistical analysis, the analysis in this study focused on identifying important patterns and trends in the data.
3.8. Time Horizon of Study
The time horizon in the research work specifies the timeframe utilized to conduct the study. There are two major time horizons, namely cross-sectional and longitudinal. It is said that the cross-sectional time horizon is ideally appropriate for researchers to figure out the occurrence of an event, situation, issue, outlook, or question by considering a cross-section of the population. The longitudinal study is the one wherein the research is conducted over an extended time period. Also, the intent of such a study is to monitor and examine the change and development in some subjects (Gamage 2025).
For the purpose of this study, the scholar chose a cross-sectional approach to respond to the research questions, which allowed him to gather data once in a time. The scholar did not take an interest in conducting a longitudinal study due to the high costs and long-term parameters associated with this. Also, the researcher chose this time horizon for the study since the previous studies in the field of after-sales or repair car services and performance, and others also employed cross-sectional information in their assessment (Maier et al., 2023). With this time horizon, the scholar was able to decide what he desired to know about, recognize the study population, select a sample, and connect with the participants to explore the needed information. The cross-sectional research is extremely flexible, and hence, in the current study, its been extremely vital to suppose diverse patterns from the past to the present and forthcoming predictions of after-sales services quality and performance. This time horizon strategy has provided a picture of the current state of quality at automotive after-sales services. It is a cross-sectional study, as the current research figures out what happens in the present time (Cvetkovic-Vega et al., 2021).
3.9. Unit of Analysis
As per, the unit of analysis means the magnitude of collection and clusters performed on the gathered data at the time of data assessment. Research questions of the study can figure out the unit of analysis in the form of what and who is being studied in research (Ruppar, 2022). For this study, the scholar aims to study after-sales service procedures in the automotive bodyshops and their impact on profits, quality standards, and efficiency. Therefore, the what being assessed in this study is profits, quality standards, and efficiency, while the who being assessed indicates the existing clients of car bodyshops and the managers of automotive car repair bodyshops or after-sales automotive services. Therefore, the existing client is the unit of analysis, which indicates the individual who comes to the body shop for routine services (repairs) of his accidental car. Besides, the unit of analysis is deemed as the existing client since the pre-decided plan of free assurance for a minimum of 3 years requires the automobile to be checked at the bodyshops in the Middle East. It signifies that the client is involved with the after-sales service center from the initial point of automobile buying until recurrent services in the phase of the free guarantee timeline.
3.10. Content, Face Validity, and Reliability
The procedure entails a systematic assessment of the capability of the scales to gauge what it aimed to measure. The scholar needs to certify that the measure possesses an adequate and descriptive range of things that draw upon a certain idea (Vu 2021). Validity means the capability of the instrument to gauge just what is intended to be measured, while reliability shows the extent to which the instrument is bias-free. In this study, the scholar carried out content validity by involving consultation practice with a set of professionals, involving a few prospective participants, to validate assumptions on the appropriateness and clarity of the chosen items utilized to gauge a specific concept. The test, which is usually carried out with at least a sample size of 30 participants, provides a perception of the actual situations of the real study and hence permits the scholar to predict the prospective issues and consequently adapt in the complete-scale research.
The researcher allowed the participants to share their opinions regarding the research topic while addressing the responses. In order to certify that the research outcomes are authentic and reliable, the scholar had never checked the interview and questionnaire agreement with friends to ensure that both of the data collection instruments had face and content validity. Additionally, the respondents were asked to check their transcripts to certify that they precisely demonstrated their perceptions. Also, some respondents were found to accept that responding to some questions threatens their security, like they might not have provided criticism on other data for fear of retribution from some people in the nation.
3.11. Pilot Study
It is said that a pilot test is conducted as a trial with a small participants before the complete study. The main motive of this practice is to test the validity and reliability of the research instrument. A pilot test in this study was performed with a small sample of 20 participants, which allowed the scholar to know the present situation of the research, predict the issues, and adjust it consequently in the comprehensive study (Kunselman 2024). Around 30 copies of the survey were given to academicians, industry professionals, and prospective participants, and after removing eight invalid surveys, 22 functional surveys were deemed effective for pilot testing. On the basis of the feedback from participants, some terms were redeveloped for an enhanced understanding of the questions.
3.12. Study Limitations
Despite the positive results this study produced, there are a few issues that need to be addressed. The study limitations were emphasized on the qualitative as well as quantitative information, which entails interview and questionnaire data. It has been observed that the data-gathering timeline was restricted to a particular timeframe that might not capture the complete set of cyclical changes in after-sales service demands and efficiency. Rather than using a longitudinal time horizon for collecting data, this study focused on using a cross-sectional time horizon, wherein the data gathering was finished in a comparatively lesser time. The issue with this time horizon was that the factors examined, like operational efficiency, profitability, and more, were subject to emerge over time. Therefore, to eliminate bias because of time, the research employed a cross-sectional time horizon. This study was further limited to respondents who admitted to engaging in either the interviews or the questionnaires. Moreover, the data gathering was restricted to workers in the Middle East automotive accident repair shops and their customers. Therefore, it has made it impossible to derive the outcomes for other sectors or regions.
3.13. Bias Elimination
Researchers' bias may have been a potential limitation due to the qualitative research approach. It is said that scholar bias arises if an individual selects and focuses on information synchronized with ones predetermined ideas (Lim 2025). For this study, the scholar applied the epoche method to overcome such a limitation. As per Gagura (2023). It is said that the application of the epoche technique to the triangulation research assisted the scholar in removing bias by allocating preconceived ideas regarding the responses of participants and research findings to emphasize them. Moreover, the employment of the epoch method assisted in certifying that the research emphasized completely the viewpoints of respondents regarding the quality services offered by automotive accident repair businesses. Suppositions about the respondents reactions were avoided by avoiding preconceived ideas and emphasizing the occurrence. Another prospective threat to the research of the phenomenon impacting the respondents might be reactivity. In this study, the incorporation of the study procedure was diligently examined to evade such occurrences and scholar bias. Besides, in the survey and interview method, questions were not framed in a way that might impact a particular response. Moreover, to address the biases, the researcher considered suitable actions, entailing utilizing neutral language in the survey, focusing on the respondents privacy, and intermixing the order of questions.
3.14. Ethical Considerations
As per Hasan et al. (2021), while carrying out this study, there have been numerous ethical issues, which were addressed in the entire proposal. The research obeyed moral principles for studies involving humans. The scholar is required to be just, respectful, honest, and trustworthy. In this study, the respondents were offered an opportunity to leave the interview and survey process at any time. After the participants decide to withdraw from the study, the scholar will manually delete the already collected data from those participants. The participants were informed that if they withdraw from the interview before the start of data analysis, all the information and documents, written or audio, will be destroyed by paper shredding, and recorded data will be deleted. Before gathering data, informed consent was taken from all participants to certify that they were knowledgeable about the aim, scope, and privacy of the study. The management of the automotive bodyshops was contacted via mail, and after that, there was a confirmation of their participation through phone. With their consent for getting interviewed for this study, the scholar took consent before and at the time of the interview procedure. In a guarded office at the university premises, all consent forms were securely kept in a file cabinet or password-protected computer. This ethical rigor made sure that the study preserved the integrity of the research process in addition to protecting the participants' rights. It was further ensured that the participants were guaranteed their obscurity and all personal identifiable data was eliminated at the stage of analysis of data analysis.
3.15. Benefits to Participants Outweigh the Risks
This study posed some risks to participants, particularly concerning their emotional response to the questions asked in the survey and interview. If participants became upset or distressed because of participation in this research, they were encouraged to call Lifeline Middle East, a 24/7 crisis line. If a participant became distressed during the survey and interview, they had the option to pause and continue the survey or the interview after a break or cease completely. The interview and survey were completed online, from a place and at a time where participants feel comfortable. Also, both of those activities were voluntary. Once the research and analysis have been completed, a full electronic copy of the thesis will be available through the EIASM library portal. All participants will be informed of this in the plain language statement. It is also possible that the results will be presented at academic and/or professional conferences and in journal publications. The findings of this study may potentially help the Middle East Welfare Association and other universities in the Middle East and other countries.


4. Chapter 4: Presentation of Findings and Results
4.0. Introduction
The empirical data gathered from the conducted semi-structured interviews with the bodyshop branches of car makers in the Middle East is presented in this chapter. Key topics that arose during the interview process are used to convey the content. The topics in the form of themes are discussed and backed up by passages from the interviews to ensure the best possible presentation of the content. The thematic analysis of the collected qualitative data using semi-structured interviews generated an understanding of the strategies employed by Automotive Bodyshops in the Middle East to improve their profitability, efficiency, and quality standards through their operations. The thematic analysis also provided insights into how their operations management strategies lead to improved profitability, efficiency, and quality aspects, and hence customer satisfaction.
4.1. Description of Participants for Qualitative Interviews
Over the course of four weeks, a total of four interviews with 5 participants were carried out. Three virtual individual interviews and one interview with participants two and four simultaneously. Since one participant was unable to keep the initial time slot due to time schedule constraints, it was decided that participants 2 and 4 would be interviewed simultaneously. The table below demonstrates the identity of chosen participants (bodyshops) for the interview, and their respective roles in providing after-sales services to the customers.

To protect the privacy of the automotive bodyshops and respondents, all participants are identified using the above table, and no names are revealed. Heterogeneity was achieved by the differing degrees of maturity of bodyshops and the range of skill sets of
the respondents. Moreover, the 4 in-person interviews included in the study were conducted either through virtual platforms such as Zoom or through telephones.
4.2. Demographics of the Respondents
Both general demographic data and the five participants practices and operational strategies of after-sales services in the automotive bodyshop were collected. Two out of five respondents are in a current position to a higher rank (managerial level). The other two participants were related to the technical field (engineer and technician). One participant was an apprentice. All the respondents possess a history of minimum 2 years of experience in after-sales automotive services in their careers. The data collected from five respondents demonstrated themes such as strategies implemented to improve profitability, operations management actions to improve efficiency of the bodyshop, challenges faced in maintaining quality standards, and customer satisfaction with repair processes.
4.3. Thematic Analysis of Interviews
4.3.1. Theme 1: Challenges faced by Automotive Repair Bodyshops
Question 1: Are there any challenges faced by your body shop to maintain quality standards? If any, elucidate?
From the interview findings, it was demonstrated that the preponderance of the participants mentioned that they faced challenges in terms of maintaining quality standards in their repair processes. The interview findings by participants are expressed below:
P1: I have identified certain challenges encountered by my automotive bodyshop to maintain quality standards, which entailed client collaborations, automobile scheduling, and management of automobile parts of automobiles.
P2:My repair bodyshop has been facing continuous challenges with respect to the quality of services, client satisfaction, and functional productivity.
P3: The challenges faced by my bodyshop were related to the poor diagnosis process before maintenance of cars, which led to repair complaints from customers.
P4: As per my perception, the bodyshop where I work usually possesses poor quality management tools, which bring challenges for workers to maintain quality standards in repair operations.
P5: I believe that high Lead Times are a challenge for my automotive bodyshop since it has lower client satisfaction as you wait for supplies, tools, and guidelines. Another major challenge was based on the allocation of resources in repair processes. I can say that the automotive bodyshops must assign high-competency activity to operations that dont completely employ their skills, contributing to obstacles and inefficiencies in the process of repair.
Therefore, it can be said that the majority of participants said that they are going to optimize their repair processes and layouts so as to refine quality standards and hence efficiency and profitability.
4.3.2. Theme 2: Operations Management and Strategies
Question 2: What, in your opinion, is the relevance of operations management in automotive after-sales repair services?
It has been demonstrated that customers depend on after-sales services for accidental car repair operations, which include the detection of the issue, acquisition of substitute components, and conducting the needed repairs by skilled engineers and technicians. The majority of the participants are found to express that operations management is significant in their business in order to recognize and lessen faults, decline wastage, and surge production efficiencies. As per some of the respondents, the operations management in their businesses entails inventory management, CRM (customer relationship management), inventory management of spare components, and accidental repair operations to refine profits and client satisfaction. On the other hand, a few participants were of the opinion that effective operations management is feasible for their bodyshop with a comprehensive strategy incorporating components such as quality control, optimized inventory, integration of technologies, and constant improvement. Amongst the respondents, there has been a mutual viewpoint that their bodyshop is able to fulfill long-term development and remain ahead of the competition by considering operations management tactics in the dynamic business setting. Below are some instances of expressions about the significance of operations management.
P1: I believe that operations management is vital to preserve the business positioning in the auto sector. I perceive that effective operations in repair services, such as the use of technology, diagnosis of issues, client relationships, and so on, can lead to developing customer self-assurance of customers, which can contribute to more profits.
P4: Operations management, in my opinion, makes sure that all accessible resources, such as skilled technicians and engineers, are employed efficiently. My bodyshop has been able to cut waste and limit expenses by standardizing processes and keeping an eye on performance indicators in operations management. That translates into reduced wait times, more reliable service, and increased revenue in the car aftermarket.
Question 3: Describe any particular strategies implemented by your automotive bodyshop to improve profitability?
Amongst the respondents, regarding the strategies implemented to refine profits, there was unambiguous consensus. The preponderance of the respondents were of the view that maintaining and fostering relations with the trustworthy clients contributes to their automotive after-sales bodyshop businesses to attain higher profits. Moreover, three of the five participants were of the view that they have improved the profitability and efficiency of their repair bodyshop by optimizing the service operations. The other two respondents emphasized the relevance of process modeling and QM (quality management) to surge and improve the profitability and performance of repair services in the automotive industry. They further mentioned that their bodyshop adopted the strategy of removing downtime and inefficiencies, which contributed to declining operational costs and hence led to improved profits for their business. To highlight these findings, the examples from the answers of participants were demonstrated below:
P2: Non-value-adding tasks, at the bodyshop I work for, were eliminated with the aid of an automated working time monitoring system for repair processes.
P4: I perceive that product quality is the major influencing factor for the profitability of the bodyshop I worked for. Hence, maintaining the quality standards is a must for repair services to improve the profits.
Question 4: What, in your opinion, is meant by lean manufacturing and its relevance? Have you implemented lean manufacturing principles while providing repair services to refine functional efficiency?
There was a common view among all respondents that lean guidelines are extremely important in their business to increase efficiency and reduce waste through the repair operations. More specifically, these techniques are important to streamline operations, decrease lead times, and refine overall efficiency. Some of the findings of the interviews are expressed below:
P3: I believe that lean manufacturing delineates an emphasis on the situations at the marketplace, providing a smooth service, the needs of clients, as well as more traditional strategies such as regular work of value-added activities for the client, waste elimination during the procedure, and decline of expenses.
P4: According to me, lean manufacturing is deemed as effective and useful in my organization (bodyshop) since it entails reiterative procedures which can be integrated, and the movement of resources and information is attainable.
P5: In my opinion, consumer expectations have increased, indicating that service quality needs to be raised. This indicates the necessity of streamlining procedures, enhancing service quality, and customizing customer service delivery. In order to accomplish such objectives, I believe that lean principles implementation can be effective.
When the participants were asked if they had executed lean manufacturing principles in their repair operations or services, all of them agreed that they have been using techniques of lean manufacturing in their operations in order to improve the operational performance of their automotive repair bodyshops.
4.3.3. Theme 3: Customization of Repair Operations
Question 5: Do you think that customizing repair service operations positively impacts the profitability, efficiency, and quality of customer services?
It was clear that the majority of the participants were of the view that customization of repair service processes can positively influence the profits, efficiency, and quality of client services. They were of the view that their bodyshops usually provide customized maintenance and repair plans to the entire team in order to preserve the efficiency of the automobiles, and hence reduce the interruptions and lead to cost reductions. One of the participants interviewed expressed the viewpoint as follows:
P2: My team at the bodyshop aims to provide tailored services customized to fulfill the unique necessities of every client. It entailed providing personalized after-sales services and offering direction on maintaining automobiles to prevent subsequent problems.
Question 6: What actions have you taken to improve operational efficiency in your automotive bodyshop?
The majority of the participants agreed that constant workforce training and capitalizing on modern operations management principles are fundamental forces to certify effective efficiency and prompt after-sales services with which businesses can attain a competitive advantage. Some of the respondents mentioned that they used numerous SC (supply chain) actions to certify effective after-sales services to customers. These involve JIT (just-in-time) manufacturing, lean manufacturing, and so on. The respondents mentioned that with such strategies, they were able to optimize their operations. One participant focused on the relevance of quality management approaches and process modeling to improve the operational efficiency of the bodyshop. Moreover, another respondent mentioned the total productive maintenance (TPM) and Kanban implementation for improving operational efficiency. Some of the expressed views of the respondents are mentioned below:
By implementing TPM into the operations of my bodyshop, I have experienced a lessening of downtime and a refinement of entire efficiency in the automotive bodyshops.
The use of VSA (value stream analysis) has facilitated us to recognize the prevalent improvement prospects in the bodyshop.
The use of lean manufacturing practices in my bodyshop repair functions and operations has provided us with an influential strategy to refine efficiency, lessening costs, and improving client satisfaction.
In my opinion, the mixture of Six Sigma and the VSA approach to operations management of automotive repair can be fruitful to lessen the lead time of after-sales services.
4.3.4. Theme 4: Technological Solution and Efficiency

The preponderance of the respondents were of the view that their implementation of predictive maintenance, smart manufacturing, and other AI-based solutions in the operations of automotive after-sales services resulted in a surge in efficiency and profitability. The rest of the participants were of the view that their adoption of technical solutions has enhanced the service sector of automotive with a range of automobile maintenance techniques that provide unique attributes. Some views are as follows:
By employing advanced analytics and ML into the operations, my team at the bodyshop was able to recognize likely problems and solve them prior to their escalation.
The use of ChatGPT has been effective in process improvement, mainly to improve efficiency, increase client satisfaction, and reduce waiting times. I must say that through the use of this technological solution, I was able to streamline my bodyshops after-sales operations mainly in areas of lessening process-finishing time.
During the repair process, I perceive that capitalizing on advanced diagnostic apparatus can be helpful for prompt and precise recognition of faults, which can further lessen the time required for diagnosis and improve the performance of the operations. However, it should be noted that experts have to be updated with the contemporary information and repair techniques in the continuously changing environment.
4.3.5. Theme 5: Overall Impact on Profitability, Efficiency, and Quality Standards, and hence customer satisfaction
Question 8: How do you certify client satisfaction and preserve profits in after-sales services?
The participants, when asked about the overall influence of their adopted actions for optimizing operations, mentioned that the implementation of operations management strategies in their repair services has led to tangible advantages for their bodyshops. The majority of them stated that their adopted techniques led to reducing waste, refining efficiency, and surging profits. They mentioned further that the usage of process optimization techniques contributes to momentous refinements in efficiency, profits, and client satisfaction. It has been found from the participants' responses that the setup of the bodyshop has provided quality services to clients, which led to their satisfaction and attained higher profits for their business. All the participants mentioned that from the execution of lean manufacturing strategies to the implementation of the JIT systems and modern technologies, bodyshops have constantly sought methods to improve performance, lessen waste, and refine the efficiency of the operations. They further stated that the progressions in technologies like data analytics, AI, and more contributed to changing conventional manufacturing operations, facilitating higher accuracy, suppleness, and personalization to fulfill the different needs of clients. Some of the expressed views are below:
Implementing lean guidelines into automotive repair bodyshops' layout provides momentous advantages in respect of efficiency, service quality, and client satisfaction.
According to me, a trustworthy client base and sustainable corporate profits might be civilized by offering superior repair services, preserving precise records, and effectively handling inventory.

5. Chapter 5: Discussion
5.0. Introduction
This chapter entailed the analysis and interpretation of the findings and results with respect to the present theoretical framework of the study or the previous research to fulfill the research objectives. It can be said that these findings were contrasted with the existing literature demonstrated in the second chapter. Several of the participants said that their efforts to improve shop layout helped to improve the profitability of their after-sales automotive business. As stated by George and Obinna Richard (2025), a shop layout that follows ergonomic guidelines has the ability to improve the satisfaction of the workforce, and that leads to continuous efficiency and profitability. Another study, Omojola et al. (2018), found that the presence of a successful integrated automotive bodyshop layout and proper workforce can lead to optimized operations, refine the delivery of services, and hence increase profitability. Drawing on this, the efficient layout of an automotive bodyshop could be seen as a driver for an increase in profitability and efficiency. Moreover, it is interpreted that an optimized layout of the bodyshop not only refines the repair services' efficiency but also offers a pleasing atmosphere to the workforce.
Customization of repair service operations and profitability, efficiency, and quality of customer service. In the after-sales services of automobiles, the customers are found to have choices in terms of purchases, batteries, covers, and more. This supports the assertion by Vigneshwaran and Mathirajan (2021) that offering personalization in repair services serves as a vital force to ensure profitability, efficiency, and excellent client services. Another scholar, Nasir et al. Therefore, the findings indicated that an auto repair shop's ability to succeed depends on a number of things, including customized repair services, which can assist the bodyshops to provide priceless customer service and achieve long-term profitability. Moreover, it can be interpreted that the automakers may contribute to the longer tenor of mutually beneficial relationships when they customize their repair operations and concentrate on providing customers with the highest quality possible service connection. Actions to improve operational efficiency in the automotive bodyshop. The prior sections established that superior planning of parts needs, cooperating with close suppliers, and employing modern techniques to speed up the repair process can lead to less turnaround time for spare parts. The findings showed that lean manufacturing practices are effective in improving operational efficiency in the bodyshops. While it might advocate the assertion by Shabeen and Krishnan (2022) that lean manufacturing places a strong emphasis on reducing wasteful behavior and streamlining processes while balancing closeness with the requirements for post-purchase repair services. Drawing on this, it can be interpreted that these methodologies possess the capability to emphasize lessening non-value-adding endeavours and simplifying functions that synchronize proximity with the necessities of automotive after-sales businesses.
5.2. Discussion of Research Objective:
To examine the particular challenges and prospects of the automobile accident repair industry and suggest situation-specific practices. Challenges faced by your body shop to maintain quality standards findings of this study emphasized the automotive repair bodyshops' need to overcome various challenges. The respondents demonstrated that the overall challenges they faced entailed high lead time; presence of the worst manufacturing tools; poor diagnosis process; and so on. The study by George and Obinna Richard (2025) found that the challenges were in the form of disorganized layout, high lead times, waste resources, and underuse of skills of workforces. The above evidence that the findings that synchronize with the previous literature in this aspect. However, unlike the interview findings, the literature also reflected that the major challenge for bodyshops was not only related to the distribution of spare components but also to client obedience to the planned distribution of automobiles. Therefore, it can be interpreted that to stay competitive, automotive after-sales service companies need to improve client interface systems, invest in worker training, and embrace digital transformation. Moreover, it can be said that the automotive car bodyshops confront implicated functional, technical, and other challenges, requiring digitization and agility to attain long-term success. The above suggests that the workforces at the automotive repair bodyshops have had various challenges to provide quality services and preserve quality standards.
5.3. Discussion of Research Objective
To study technological solutions adopted by automotive bodyshops to enhance the quality of after-sales services.Technological solutions for high-quality services and fewer faults According to a study by Arlinghaus and Knizkov (2020), significant changes have been brought about by technology in the after-sales facilities sector. Another scholar, Titu et al. (2025), found that the introduction of technologies through necessary components has changed how the automotive repair industry is seen and addressed a number of problems related to inefficiency, inaccurate data, and subpar customer service. The interview findings majorly support previous studies in the interpretation that contemporary technologies possess the capability to offer real-time data and hence improve operational efficiency. The scholars in their previous studies also mentioned the use of ChatGPT in the area of optimizing after-sales automotive repair operations. They considered the technology to have a positive effect on a company's management and operational designs in addition to significantly altering established operations. The findings seem to extend the role of technical workforces and engineers to implement ChatGPT into repair services so as to reduce the wait times for customers and increase the client satisfaction level. However, unlike previous literature, the interview findings in this area are more comprehensive since they mention modern technologies such as predictive maintenance, machine learning, and so on, apart from ChatGPT. Therefore, it can be interpreted that the literature findings are partially aligned with the interview findings. Drawing on this, it can be said that the automotive bodyshops, by using advanced analytics and other modern technologies such as AI, can increase the precision or correctness of car problem detection and maintenance efficiency while lowering maintenance costs. Hence, it makes repair work done in a controlled environment that ensures quality maintenance and ongoing development.
5.4. Discussion of Research Objective 4
To interpret study outcomes in real and significant measures to refine profitability in the automotive accident repair industry. Overall Impact on Profitability, Efficiency, and Quality Standards, and hence customer satisfaction.
The extant literature suggests that by executing actions such as the adoption of technologies, refining of spare parts, and optimization of repair processes, automotive bodyshops can certify an effective, superior, and client-focused operation, assisting in increasing the satisfaction of clients and improving the positioning of the company. It has been shown that the implementation of technological solutions such as automated systems, helped in the identification and elimination of non-value-adding tasks, which further led to lessen functional costs and increased profits. The preponderance of the respondents for this area mentioned that they have been employing concepts of operations management in their processes and activities of car repair, and these strategies benefited them significantly. The above section further mentioned that the efficiency of the business has surged, and turnaround time has been reduced due to the use of effective diagnostic processes and allocation of resources. On this point, the participants confirmed the favourable influence of service process modelling, which shows that automotive bodyshop management can employ process optimization techniques to attain momentous refinements in client satisfaction, profits, and efficiency. Therefore, it can be said that the results align with earlier studies emphasizing the value of quality control and process optimization in improving organizational performance. This would further mean that the automotive bodyshops should be set up to offer high-quality services that will increase client happiness and boost business profits. The findings support previous studies that assert that the majority of the income can be generated through after-sales services in the entire car repair manufacturing companies (Al Abed et al., 2025). As explained above and in the comprehensive literature, apart from profitability, there has been a positive impact of operations management guidelines in repair services on the efficiency and quality standards. According to Fathurohman et al. (2021), effective service quality can increase customer satisfaction, have an impact on the repurposing of used goods and services, and help maximize the organization's reputation by providing other customers with product information and services. Further, the same literature emphasized the relevance of lean principles and modern technologies for improving decision-making abilities to improve functional performances. It has been evidenced that the use of kaizen techniques led to improved whole service quality and reduced faults. The above findings support such assertions since it is evident that constant monitoring certifies that quality norms are preserved at entire phases of the repair procedure.
