Overview

The main objectives of this assignment are to evaluate your knowledge and ability in:

  • Recognising and articulating appropriate business questions using a real world example.
  • Selecting appropriate variables, applying relevantdescriptive/inferential statistics, to explore evidence related to the business questions.
  • Communicating clearly in a written report, the business questions, statistical results/Excel outputs, and business or policy advice.

General Information about the Data and Survey

  1. You are required to define the objective of your study and to carry out a simple survey to collect your data. It is important that you design a survey questionnaire that meets the requirement of your study objective.
  2. Although probability sampling is preferable compared to non-probability sampling, due to time constraints, you may collect your data using convenience sampling.
  3. As for sample size, it is recommended that you survey at least 75 individuals/items. If you need some guidance on survey questionnaires, there are two samples from other studies on MyLO for your reference (See Group Assignment folder).
  4. Ensure that you survey a sufficient number of categorical and numerical variables in order to demonstrate your ability in analyzing your data using various relevant statistical techniques/theories covered fromWeek 1 toWeek 4 (i.e. Chapter 1 to Chapter 4).

AGuidefor Completing your Assignment

In general, you are required to communicate your business questions, statistical findings and business recommendations in a written report. Your report must contain the following sections and components:

Section 1.Title of your report

  • It should be simple, and clearly reflects the objective of your study.

Section 2. Introduction.

2.1. Define the objective of yourstudy and explain why the study is of interest.

2.2. Identify thekey (or dependent) variableand the explanatory (or independent) variables that are relevant to your analysis. It will be easier if yourkey variableis a continuous or discrete numerical variable rather than a categorical variable.

2.3. Explain why you chose each of the explanatory variables (as described in 2.2), and the potential relationship between your key variable and the explanatory variables using relevant theories, statements or previous work in the literature.

Section 3. Description of Data Collection

  • Explain your sampling method and the process involved in collecting the data.

Section 4. Data Analyses and Results

  • Present the variables you considered in section 2.2 using various appropriate statistical techniques/measures covered in Chapters 1, 2, 3, and 4. Subsequently, analyze and discuss each of your outputs/results in an interesting, accurate and meaningful manner.

Section 5. Conclusion

5.1. Highlight your key findings and make recommendations for appropriate business or policy decision making. Note that this section should not be used to simply repeat discussion of results.

5.2. Comment on the limitations of your survey (e.g. variables selection, measurement of variables, survey method, etc.) and make suggestions for alternative approaches or considerations which would further improve future research and business/policy decision making. Support your suggestions with relevant academic/industry references.
