Early Childhood Education :Reflective Writing
Assessment 1 – reflective writing 30% This assessment has two sections:
a) writing about the past and
b) writing about the future. You must answer one from section (a) and one from section (b).
Section (a) (750 words)
Reflect on how students’ experiences and expectations of schooling are shaped by multiple factors outside of education, including family, background, history and geography. Include your personal experiences in this reflection and use relevant materials from the unit resources to support your arguments.
OR
Evaluate how policies involving Aboriginal people have created legacies affecting later generations. Where relevant, you may discuss both schools and other government or authority institutions (e.g., hospitals, police, social services, child protection, Centrelink, justice system).
Section (b) (750 words)
Evaluate the findings from one section of the AHRC’s Close the Gap (2022) report. What changes do you think can be implemented to improve outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students? Make reference to any ideas you may have discussed in Section(a).
**NOTE: the AHRC report is NOT the same as the government’s Closing the Gap report.**
OR
What strategies can you utilise to meet the needs of your Aboriginal students, whether in an urban or remote/regional location? Consider elements such as physical environments, language, and curriculum. What are some culturally appropriate strategies you could use in each setting? Justify why you have chosen these strategies and the education theories that underly your choices.
