Purposes of the Assignments

The assignments are designed with two motivations. First, students will learn how to develop arguments using trustworthy information sources, paraphrasing with guidance and proper citation. By the end of this assignment, students are expected to demonstrate research skills by knowing how to search for credible and legitimate information from reliable sources. Second, students will learn effective communication skills by narrating findings clearly through a short report and oral video presentation.

The assignment aims to train students to develop research ideas and constructive arguments with credible supporting evidence, to apply economics knowledge from diverse perspectives in business contexts and to justify decisions that address complex issues considering the ethical and social consequences. Furthermore, the assessment is designed to build students' research critical analytical skills as if they were working as economic policy analysts. Students must demonstrate effective communication skills through oral and written communication to policy-makers and stakeholders.

Read the article by Pitelis (2008) to understand how economic theories link to ethical behaviour. Can you identify ethical issues that have environmental, governance, and/or social implications? Write a maximum of 1000 words of a short research brief to explain the key findings of your research, emphasise ethical issues and provide recommendations.

The structure of the report should include:

Introduction: Identify the research problem and briefly explain its context and importance of the issue.

Body: Provide historical background of the issue and the current status of the situation. Justify your arguments with the support of data and literature searches. Include charts and diagrams and explain them in your arguments.

Conclusion: Summarise your analysis and provide recommendations.

References: The brief must be written using the APA 7th referencing Links to an external site. with in-text citation and end-text Reference list. All references MUST be thoroughly checked and verified. WARNING: Any fabricated or falsified reference included in an assignment is considered serious academic misconduct, which results in a zero mark for the assignment.
