TEXT scenario

You are a teacher at Solster High School, who has been asked to share your knowledge on general capabilities with your colleagues and look at ways to incorporate them into lessons and units.

Select each of the following three scenarios to see what it is that you have been asked to do.

Scenario 1Your principal has approached you after class to ask if you are able to create a 3-minute talk regarding general capabilities to share with your colleagues at your team meeting next week.

"Yes, I agree that a good understanding of general capabilities is very important. I'd be happy to help out."

"Hi, I'm wondering if you can please organise a 3-minute talk explaining what is meant by general capabilities to share with your colleagues in your teaching area, at next weeks team meeting? I think it is very important for all teachers to have a good grasp on the meaning of general capabilities."

"Great! When explaining general capabilities to your teaching team, can you please ensure to include at least two examples outlining what the capabilities of numeracy and literacy look like in your specialist teaching area?"

"Yes, I can do that."

You put aside some time one day after class to create your 3-minute talk.

Scenario 2Your teaching team really enjoyed the talk that you gave on general capabilities last week and have asked if you could explain how they can embed numeracy into a sequence of three lessons.

"After your talk on general capabilities last week, I've been wondering how I can embed numeracy into this three lesson plan sequence I have. Would you be able to help me with this?"

"I sure can. Can you please share the lesson plans with me?"
