You are required to:

  • Attend and consume a selected tourism or event experience in real time for the purpose of this assessment (advised option).
    OR:
  • Select a tourism or event experience you have attended and consumed previously. If you choose this option, please ensure your choice of experience is very recent and memorable.
  • Having done this, you will then produce an individual critical and evaluative written account of the design and experience management of that tourism or event experience in the form of a portfolio that draws upon and analyses the design and experience management theories and concepts investigated during the module;
  • This should demonstrate the application and in-depth analysis of relevant theories to the consumed tourism or event experience; and students should
  • Include a selection of annotated collected materials in the portfolio such as photographs and/or promotional images, programmes, tickets, and/or menus etc. These will be supporting evidence of the consumption of the tourism, hospitality or event experience.

RE-Assessment guidelines:

Your choice of ‘experience’ should be relevant to the discipline of study for your PG Programme and might be (although is not limited to) the following examples:

  • International Festival and Event Management: attending an event or festival.
  • International Tourism Destination Management and International Heritage and Cultural Tourism Management: a visit to a destination or visitor attraction; a visit to a managed heritage/cultural attraction; an interpretive tour at a heritage/cultural sit, etc.

While there is flexibility in your choice of experience, you should ensure that you have selected an experience that can demonstrate the application of design and experience management theories and concepts in practice.

This means you should be certain your choice has a management approach in place; has elements that are designed (e.g. in terms of its setting, theme, location or theme etc.); and has experiential elements to it that can be observed, sensed and consumed.

You should also provide evidence that you attended and consumed this festival, event, or tourism experience. You can include details of when you attended (date and times) and other relevant details (such as photographs and other images that demonstrate you were there).

You should construct an individual portfolio of the designed and managed experience. This will draw upon, critically analyse and potentially expand relevant theories and concepts introduced in the module. The portfolio should include both a written element and supporting annotated visual evidence of the design and managed experience (for example photographs, tour guides, menus, programmes, promotional materials) The portfolio should provide an account of the context or setting of the experience you have selected based upon secondary research. It should also present an appropriately referenced discussion of relevant design and experience management theories and concepts and evidence of their application in practice.
