Exploring Personality Traits: Reflection, Analysis, and Alignment with Career Goals
Assignment Task:
This individual assignment accounts for 20% of your total subject grade. Its purpose is to get you to reflect on your own individual personality and engage with the Organizational Behaviour (OB) literature.
Assignment Instructions:
Complete the Big Five Personality test located on the LMS under Assessment 1. Reflect on your test results and complete the following three tasks.
- Select your two highest scoring traits and discuss one advantage and one disadvantage for each trait. Use relevant OB academic literature from 2010 onwards when defining your selected traits (provide citations in-text and references at the end of the assignment). OB academic literature refers to the use of academic sources published in peer-reviewed journal articles or books). You need to use relevant concepts, theories, and frameworks as covered in this subject. In your response, provide personal examples to illustrate the advantage and disadvantage of your two chosen traits.
- Reflect and critically discuss whether your test results reflect the way you see yourself. Show your results to someone who knows you (i.e. a family member, a close friend, an employer, a sporting coach, etc) and discuss if they agree or disagree with your scores. In your response, describe the person and their relationship to you. Discuss whether or not you were surprised by your results. If the results surprised you, discuss what surprised you and what you learnt from the exercise. If you were not surprised by the results, consider how / where you developed your self-awareness in the past and how this has been a help to you.
- Identify your preferred job after completing university and reflect on how well your personality traits fit.For instance, you might aspire to be a junior designer at North Face or a junior consultant at Deloitte. In your response, describe that job and provide personalised examples of your personality fit. If your results of the personality test do not align with your preferred job, provide some self-improvements tactics you could undertake to increase your strengths in these areas. Or if the results of your test strongly align with your job, provide strategies you will undertake to maintain your strengths in these areas.
*No introduction or conclusion is required. As a general guide, responses to Task 1, Task 2, and Task 3 should be roughly equal in word count.
