FTGS 1019 Service-Learning Alternative Project:
FTGS 1019 Service-Learning Alternative Project:
If you have a job in finance/accounting with a Canadian company and you can accumulate 30-40 work hours over this school year (September to mid-March), you have the option of using that work experience as your service-learning project. Note that you will still be enrolled in Service-Learning and will earn that credit based on the work you do in your job and the report you submit.
To earn your credit, you must submit a 1,000-1,500-word document discussing the following:
Describe the company you work for and the work you do (your responsibilities) at your job. Tell me about some specific things you have done that are interesting. Please include the name and contact information of your direct supervisor (so I can verify).
If your company already uses FinTech, please describe the ways it is used and how the company has improved with the use of FinTech. Have a discussion with someone in management at your job about how the decision to use FinTech was made, how its going, and where they envision it to be in the future. Please include the name and contact information of this person (so I can verify).
If your company does not currently use FinTech (or could use more), please describe a variety of ways (3-4) that FinTech could be incorporated in the business to provide a competitive advantage. Have a discussion with someone in management about your ideas and record their thoughts. Please include the name and contact information of this person (so I can verify).
The fine print:
If you are planning on taking this option, you must have it approved by the program coordinator at the beginning of the winter semester.
Your final report must be submitted before the service-learning project for the rest of the class begins. (Last 4 weeks of the semester). If you do not submit the report by this time, you will be required to complete the regular service-learning activities with the rest of the class.
If you are approved for the alternate project, you are not required to attend school during the normal service-learning project (last 4 weeks of the semester)
Regarding the use of ChatGPT and your report:
It will take you about 10 seconds to ask ChatGPT to list some duties for a particular job. I am not interested in reading that. Tell me about you, what you did, what you learned.
It will take you even less time to tell ChatGPT what your company does and ask it to describe some ways it could use FinTech as a competitive advantage. I am not interested in reading that. Take that information and make it specific to your company e.g. Our b2b salesperson, Marty currently [describe a task he does], he could use [insert fintech feature] to [describe how his task would change using fintech]. Then describe how that will help him, the company, the customer whoever.
