Instructions
You are required to complete a report with the following components:
- Main report:complete ananalysisand make a series ofrecommendationsconcerning the automobile manufacturing company 'Toyota' (1800-2000 words)
- Podcast reflection section:listen to and reflect on a selected McKinsey podcast episode assessing the macro business economics of vehicle electrification (300-350 words)
The objectives of the case report analysis are to:
- assess how well you can use and leverage strategy frameworks and tools to diagnose competitive positions of Toyota;
- examine your ability to develop strategy recommendations that are persuasive, justified, and well-presented; and
- gauge how well you can synthesise and integrate a diverse information base to demonstrate higher order thinking in presenting strategic analyses and recommendations.
(1) Main Report:
- The case needs to address the structural transformation in Toyota's largest market,North America, where consumer demands towards vehicle electrification are changing. Provide a brief overview of Toyota's internal firm resources for context, but focus most of your strategic framework analysis on theexternal environment, e.g. industry competition, consumer trends and regulations for informing strategic recommendations.
- You must display nuanced understanding of the industry's complex consumer, technological and regulatory trends - this is why this case study is challenging and demands strategic thinking!Emphasize strategictradeoffs and risksof the recommended strategy.
- You will need to develop a logical structure to your report, including an introduction, an overall assessment of the industry using strategic management frameworks (drawing onBOTH industry reports and peer-reviewed academic business journal articles), and a conclusion section with strategic recommendations for Toyota during the period 2025-2030.
(2) Podcast Reflection section

- Choose 1-2 key ideas from this podcast and reflect on how these ideas relate to your main report analysis and strategy recommendations, using 300-350 words max. This may include highlighting conceptual connections between the podcast and the report, and integrating your strategic framework insights with ideas from the podcast in a manner showcasing podcast-informed critical reflection. This reflection should be in a section/box titled 'Reflection on Strategy the Future of Electrification' at the end of your report, e.g. after your conclusion and strategy recommendations and before your reference list. Cite the time in the podcast where your key ideas are found.
